Retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez was commander of coalition forces in Iraq at the time of the abuses took place at Abu Ghraib. After the scandal broke, Sanchez resigned from the army without a promised promotion. Here is what he told me about his accountability:

Charlie is not tough enough on these ex-Bush administration cronies. Charlie seems to take the viewpoint that if years from now Iraq turns out to be a functioning democracy, the Bush administration may be redeemed. I do not think anything could redeem this illegal, contemptible administration. Nothing!
