In one of the funniest stories to come out of Hollywood recently, Heidi Klum reportedly sent Victoria "Skeleton" Beckham a dozen of the decadent Sprinkles cupcakes for her birthday. It gets better: The attached note added that a dozen would be coming...

7 Comments | Posted May 12, 2008 | 01:22 PM (EST)

Because obesity and taxes are two of the best subjects to get people all riled up, in an effort to raise their Google ranking, New Jersey decided to propose a new tax on fast food. Governor John S. Corzine (the Not Gay One -- remember him? Don't feel bad,...

I Hate Special K

Yes, I hate the date-rape drug but I am actually talking about the cereal this time. How can a lowly box of spurious nutrition engender such hatred? Easy. This:

The Dark Side of Prom

1 Comments | Posted April 30, 2008 | 02:58 PM (EST)

Prom night can be anxiety ridden for many reasons - underage drinking, drugs, car accidents and, of course, all of the s-e-x. It's positively migraine inducing if you consider all of those things happening at once. (What? I'm sure it's been done.)

As a high school teacher, the part...

The ultra-thin Heidi Montag pretends to gobble up tacos in an ad campaign for Taco Bell. Svelte Cameron Diaz professes to love nothing more than a good cheeseburger -- but have you ever seen her eat one? And skeletal Keira Knightley says she...

She's Gotta Be Hot

Posted April 20, 2008 | 12:54 PM (EST)

"My idea of a perfect woman? A) she's gotta be hot." So starts a movie starring every single celebrity you've heard of in the past ten years and even some you haven't.

Food Stamp Fatties

Today I experienced an intense inner burning feeling (and not of the Monistat variety, but thanks for asking - I'm touched by your concern. And creeped out. ) I discovered that my friend who makes just shy of six figures is, through a quirk of our legal system, eligible for...

Not Your Grandma's Cage Fighting

2 Comments | Posted April 14, 2008 | 12:24 PM (EST)

In a move that can only be described as "duh," Missouri legislators are seeking to ban children from cage fighting. One might assume that children would already be prohibited from being thrown into a chain-link box and told to enact every school-yard bully's fantasy. You would be...

When Dirty Is A Compliment

Getting caught doing this during the Spanish Inquisition was a one-way ticket to the iron maiden. In medieval times doing it was believed to infect you with the Black Death. Early Christians considered it on par with idol worship. But of course the Romans were all about doing it. In...

What Your Personal Trainer Isn't Telling You

Posted April 6, 2008 | 11:22 PM (EST)

In my line of work (can I actually call it work if I enjoy it this much and nobody is actually paying me?), I come across a lot of personal trainers. Some of my best friends are personal trainers which, besides a lot of dinner party conversation centered around whether...

Give Up -- Just Be Fat

Posted April 3, 2008 | 01:20 PM (EST)

It's pretty much useless to try and be thin if you don't have the (much coveted, soon to be cloned at a store near you) "thin gene." Based on a study of over 3,000 pairs of female twins -- the gold standard for both researchers and teenage boys --...

Outside Mag Sells Bikes -- Also, Women

15 Comments | Posted March 31, 2008 | 10:04 AM (EST)

In our culture we have a long-standing tradition of metaphorically selling women but we've left the literal selling to actual human traffickers. Outside magazine -- "we go outside so you can pretend you do" -- is doing it's best to blur those lines for its mostly male, mostly wealthy readership....

Your Own Worst Enemy

Fiery plane crash. Rock climbing accident. Cancer. Crushed in one of those huge metal turnstiles/revolving door of spikes they have at the zoo that looks like an Iron Maiden. (Am I the only one who is terrified by those things? I'm using the "stroller entrance" whether or not I have...

You've heard the story how I got sucked in. Here's how I got spit out.

If Michelle Williams was the beginning of the end, then Posh Spice was my undoing. Like every Gen-Y'er, I could tell you what I want, what I really, really want. Even if that thing...

Confessions Of A Celebrity Blogger

It all started with a dubious website for underemployed writers and a post that can best be described as the Internet equivalent of a casting call for a Valtrex ad. "Writer wanted for popular celebrity blog. Style must match exactly. I need to take a break for personal reasons and...

Hilary Clinton Does Not Have An Eating Disorder

If it is true that every woman has an eating disorder, then Hillary Clinton has the wrong one. Devouring a Drumstick ice cream cone, a raspberry malt, and a Snickers Blizzard in just over 24 hours as part of her DQ blitz campaign strategy, she made sure that local...

"Love Old." It's not a sentiment I'm used to hearing from a teenage girl in our society. Actually it's not a sentiment one hears much at all in our botoxed, knee-lifted, 50-is-the-new-30 society. So you can understand why I was intrigued when I saw this phrase splayed in bright green...
