Geilo, Norway

Located between Oslo and Bergen, Geilo is known as one of the most "snow secure" destinations in Norway. The charming mountain village, which dates back to the latter years of the 19th century, is perfect for those who have never skied before. Among Geilo's 39 slopes are a plethora of beginner and intermediate runs. For variety, there are plenty of other winter sports such as snowshoeing, glacier hiking, dog-sledding, horse-drawn sleigh rides and guided nature adventures.

The photo of Corbet's Couloir at Jackson Hole causes me to pucker in areas I'd rather not be puckered. I can't believe there was a time when I would actually take that leap.

B.C. snow is near the coast & a bit heavy. Banf much fluffy. but old mining town out back of braloren really step & deep. Big time hikers only. Cali & nevada slopes great but snow is heavy somewhat. Colo fluffy wolf creek & BP pass, motazuma bowl & Jane has the bumps with breck but also takes crowds to form them. Les Arch france for speed, german & swiss alps always fun long runs with steps low altitude & heavy sometimes like BC canada. Puru out back step & rugged also a hiker plan. Any day in snow is great.:)

The best for me is Mt Bachelor in Or. No need to go through body cavity searches by TSA or $20 coffee.

Mt. Bach sucks, the top is closed almost half the season due to poor visibility, ices to easy and high winds.

PLEASE NOTE: There are no "Grand Tetons." There is a mountain range called the Tetons, the tallest of which is named The Grand Teton.

Give me Whistler-Blackcomb, Mammoth, Alpine Meadows, Telluride, Solitude, Taos, and Alta. Great skiing and boarding and my family doesn't have to smell the cigarette smoke lofting above the lift lines in Europe.

Where (and more importantly when) were you skiing somewhere in Europe when there were still smokers on the pistes? I haven't encountered any for nearly 6 years now.

Killington is a great ski resort, offering Big Mountain skiing in the east. But it is not for beginners!!!!

Good place to take lessons, but not for beginners after the lessons.

No Vail, Snowbird, Alta, Canyons or Mammoth on the list? This list is a crock!

Pity I've only skiied 2 of them. But there is nowhere in this world like Verbier, either for the skiing or the apres ski. Sitting in the Offshore Cafe at the bottom of the main lift in the middle of town and sipping on one of their huge bowls of hot chocolate after a long days skiing was a bucket list moment for me. You can bury my liver in Vegas, but my heart belongs to Verbier.

As does mine. I'm living in a flat part of Maine at the moment, which is rather depressing given that my heart lays with the peaks of my homeland. I can't wait to return to Verbier!
