European travel is glorious in winter - relatively empty cities, architecture that pops against the stark weather and low prices for hotels - and it's pretty romantic, too.
So a Valentine's trip across the pond is understandable - but where should you go? If you want to think a little beyond the usual suspects (ie Paris, Venice and Prague) here are a few ideas.

All the above places are marvellous -- but you are unlikely to see them in sunshine, as pictured.
Rain, snow, or shine, it's going to be dark at 5 PM, which is why I would do London or Paris if I had to go now (lots of shopping and window shopping for the early evenings).
Also, if you are museum lover, provincial museums may not be open every day in winter.
If staying in the room is romantic, go!
But, as always, I question how you can have any list of superlative European cities with any set of criteria, without including Istanbul.
Istanbul is warmer, so might be a good winter choice, but it's sort of not in Europe at all.
