Clinton/Obama 2008?

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

In my voting lifetime, I don't believe I've witnessed a more impressive lineup of democratic presidential candidates. So it pains me a bit, to have to pick between them, especially with the election still a year away.

Although I appreciate Senator John Edwards' candor, and his very accurate perspective that corporate interests are at the core of many of our domestic problems, his strategy to "defeat big business" is idealistic and not enough to build a platform around. If elected, Senator Edwards would discover the same impenetrable wall that the Clintons slammed into while trying to bring in a universal health care plan in 1993.

That leaves Senator Barack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton. Senator Clinton with her ostensibly vested interests in "big business" is not a conflict, but an inspired strategy of reforming corporate interests from within. Senator Clinton knows how to work this unwieldy and superannuated network of government agencies and corporate America. She learned the hard way, but learn she did. As eloquent as Senator Obama is, as gifted as he is, this is not his time. It would take years for him to become as knowledgeable and effective as Senator Clinton in reforming these broken systems.

However, I ardently believe that Senator Obama will be president one day, perhaps in 2016. By then, if all goes as it should, the United States would have had its first woman president in office, our country would have regained a good part, if not all, of its credibility and identity as a sane and legitimate world leader, and a voice of democracy. And America, red and blue states included, would hopefully have moved past any rhetoric of gender and/or race.

Both nationally and internationally, there is a desperate need for the kind of leadership that only Senator Clinton can accomplish. Senator Hillary Clinton's time is now, but is it too much to hope for a Clinton/Obama ticket for 2008? I can dream....

So basically you're saying the Edwards has got it right, but that really changing things would be much too hard, so vote for the one who won't try so hard.

Thanks for the advice.

Give me a break!

"inspired strategy of reforming corporate interests from within"?

Is that what we're calling selling out to the establishment interests and doing their bidding?

Please do elaborate.
What is this inspired strategy?
Please give one example of Hillary's "knowledge and effectiveness" in reforming the system?
Please point out ONE instance of leadership by Hillary?

Hillary supporters make a lot of claims, but never present any evidence to back them up.

Assertions, no matter how often they are made, are not facts.

I couldn't agree more with your assessment of this line-up of Democratic presidential candidates.

But, I’m left to conclude that who is most impressive, or most qualified, has little to do with your selection process which seems no more than a sad reflection of the kind of celebrity-driven contest that the national media has already presented to us, ad nauseam.

Hopefully, a majority of caucus-goers and primary voters will be implementing a far different approach to their decision-making during this election cycle.

Perhaps you wouldn't mind explaining why Senator Biden, the leader among Democrats on foreign policy, national security and constitutional issues with impeccable and unimpeachable credentials that are wholly unmatched by any of his rivals, is not worthy of your attention.

Senator Biden has demonstrated, through all of his years of public service, that he is the REAL agent for meaningful change and that, despite 35 years in the Senate (he started at a very early age!) he has consistently resisted the status-quo conventional wisdom and worked against the grain to MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN!

The next President will need to enter the oval office with a mandate substantially higher than a 51% simple majority of popular support - and which extends through Congress - to radically change the course of this nation and shape the world by advancing any progressive agenda, domestically or internationally. Even a cursory look at Senator Biden’s proven track record for action will show that he has the capacity to attract the support of Republicans and Independents, not to mention wayward Democrats.

Clearly, Senator Biden stands alone and head and shoulders above all the others when it comes down to who has the most RELEVANT experience - coupled with a depth and breadth of knowledge about the critical issues of the day that is unrivaled among this impressive array of candidates - and who has demonstrated a capacity to achieve meaningful change through bipartisan consensus-building and, most importantly, who has a PROVEN TRACK RECORD FOR ACTION and making change happen.

If you still think this ticket is a possibility, you must live under a rock. Even after Barack's overly-deferential "attack" on Hillary during the October debate, there was a chance for reconciliation... but she diminished that chance with her weak, self-righteous responses, and she threw it away altogether when she started her sudden, hypocritical assaults.

Once you start mudslinging your rival for what they said in Kindergarten, you're beyond the point of no return. The Obama campaign has been giving sound refutations of such contrived fake controversies on http://hillaryattacks.barackobama.com

Obama's still all rhetoric,,and he started the mud-slinging as soon as HRC pulled ahead in polls. Anyone who actually analyzes HRC's votes, and reads the specifics of her 'Iraq' or 'Iran' votes would be hard pressed to call her GOP lite. Personally, I think Edwards is the major candidate that has it right, particularly because of his emphasis on corporate reform, which is urgently needed in this country. But it ain't looking good for him...at present. Long campaign to come.

And I'd take any 2 out of 3 candidates above on the Dem ticket. Hopefully, whoever the primary survivors are will forego ego, accept VP and/or cabinet slots, and work together to dig this nation back out of its hole.

But all the Hillary-bashing, that's pretty wierd. Most of it's pure crackpot, like 'gang stalking,' and 'she voted for war with Iran.'

Once again you overlook another viable candidate. Biden has vastly more knowledge and experience than Clinton in the foreign arena (domestic they are likely close to equal arguably, but which is a bigger issue the next 4 years?). I think you are correct on Obama though... and the best possible ticket the Dems could have would be a Biden/Obama ticket with Obama taking over in 4 or 8 years.

This lets the best foreign policy expert run the country and repair our image in the world while bringing expenditures under control and balancing the budget so there is money and good will available to advance the domestic and social policies that the liberal left wants so badly to be put in place. If Obama or Clinton gets elected, look for an ineffective 4 years in office with them struggling to get the foreign agenda under control and no money or support from Republicans to advance the policies the democrats want addressed. Then the republicans win back the White House in 4 years due to ineffectual leadership from the democratic party (although in fact just obstructed by the republicans) I've been saying this for a long time now, and people are just starting to realize this as the undecided voters and independents are turning to Biden rather than joining Clinton and Obama. I just don't know if there is enough time in the race for him to catch up. Alot of people will be waiting to the last minute to make their decisions though and If he catchs up and passes Edwards in Iowa and then makes a strong showing in New Hampshire, the field will start to thin and the media will pay attention and things may turn differently than anyone is predicting right now.

Put behind you the stories of a woman, black man, and latino man running this term and elect the person with the best qualifications and most experience.

Sure, why not. It's been a while since the Democrats have shot themselves in both feet at once. You may fire when ready Gridly.

I predicted a Clinton/Obama ticket back in February. For me it's more of a nightmare than a dream, though. To each their own.

That would be an unbeatable ticket and what we desperately need at this juncture.

I'd like to know what evidence you can site that Hillary "learned" anything.

She obviously didn't learn anything from her Iraq vote, since she just encouraged the Prez to attack Iran and we just found out it was more of Bush's BS. We are lucky we found out the newer NIE report that Iran stopped it's nuke program before HIllary and Bush took us into another unjustified war.

She obviously didn't learn anything from her healthcare failure. There is NO WAY she will be able to get through congress, a Health bill that forces americans to buy private insurance from for-profit insurance companies, and I've heard rumblings that it might even be unconstitutional. She continues to attack republicans instead of trying to bridge the gap from the 1990s.

I don't see any evidence that Hillary has learned anything, and i don't see any less hostility from republicans toward the Clintons, so i don't see how she would get ANY laws past the republicans who will still be in office should she be elected.

I too thought Obama would some day be president but I have seen his dark side and I am not interested in his advancement in this government.

It is possible that Senator Clinton is the best candidate. However, even though many may like the policies that Senator Clinton proposes, they should also consider her record, just as Senator Clinton insists.
.
The last Clinton Administration, when faced with the fact that protection rackets where assaulting, torturing and murdering people with poison and radiation, chose to avoid its responsibilities to incarcerate the criminals and to protect the citizenry.
.
Instead, they made a deal with the criminal gang stalker protection rackets to leave them alone and to consequently abandon the citizenry.
.
Do we want a President who sells out the citizenry for votes?
.
Do we want a President who sends a "crime does pay" message to society?
.
Would you vote for a President who signed nonaggression deals with the KKKlan or the Nazi party? Gangs that torture with poison and radiation are much like the KKKlan and Nazi Party.
.
We do not need a sellout President. We need a principled leader President.
.
If you are one of the few who do not know what the above refers to, do a web search for “gang stalking” to see the tip of the dirtberg. Please do it before you decide to reply to my post. Here let me make it easy for you: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22gang+stalking%22.
