'The Good Wife' Recap: Standing Up To The Man In 'Here Comes The Judge'

Posted: 11/18/2012 11:22 pm

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Season 4, Episode 8 of CBS' "The Good Wife," titled "Here Comes the Judge."

It's official: We're in filler episode territory of "The Good Wife." While "Here Comes the Judge" had some interesting elements, it felt overwhelmingly "meh."

The episode started with a text conversation between Grace (insert your groan here -- I did) and her friend about the death of one of their classmates, also named Grace. "Someone says ur dead." Dead Grace killed herself, had supposedly been cutting and had just gone through a breakup. Alive Grace decides to take it upon herself to save Dead Grace's ex-boyfriend Connor. They spent a lot of time sitting in bushes, talking about God, sex and getting photographed by a rival campaign. Zach has been secretly helping Peter's campaign and will probably continue to do so, giving him something to do, I guess. Side note: Luke Kleintank, the actor who portrays Connor, is 22. And looks it. Moving on ...

Judd Hirsch guest starred as a drunk judge who makes biased statements against Lockhart/Gardner's client. The entire main case of the episode was Diane and Alicia arguing against Laura (Amanda Peet) about the bias. Laura was struggling in court earlier in the episode, but thanks to one little piece of advice from Alicia, she's suddenly the best assistant states attorney ever. Because of course. The nature of the case allowed for some solid Alicia-standing-up-to-the-man (the judge) speeches, which are always fun. Diane also broke out a power brooch for the occasion. Just because the judge made the statements while he was blacked out drunk doesn't mean it's OK and Lockhart/Gardner wins.

Over in the Kalinda/Nick part of the show, Nick got super jealous of Cary and his Calvin Klein suits -- so much so that he has Cary attacked in the rain. And we're left wondering about that. Will Kalinda get revenge? Will Alicia, Cary's new BFF, get some legal revenge? I'm anxiously awaiting Kalinda's return to brighter rooms and the removal of Nick.

Some other thoughts/questions:

Was this the first episode this season without Nathan Lane?

When is this campaign over with? Soon? No? Then bring back Maura Tierney sooner rather than later, please.

The most exciting part of this episode was the preview for next week. Bring on Stockard Channing!

No gasps this week.

"The Good Wife" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
