Prominent Democrats Back McCain- Newsmax.com headline 6/15/08
I usually only read Newsmax for the non-prescription boner pill ads. ("Not only can I get it up, but I can also last for a while." -- Vialipro ®. "Leonard has a larger penis. There is no doubt about it." -- Orexis ™) But when I saw the headline about prominent Democrats backing McCain, I had to click on it.
Who would it be? Gore? Daschle? Byrd? John Glenn?
Were the wounds from the primaries so deep? Were there new doubts about Barack? Was the party tearing itself apart? Is John Glenn even alive?
Relax.
It turns out when Newsmax says "prominent Democrats" they mean one former congressman, three ex-mayors and former Palmyra, Maine Budget Committee Member Herb Bates.
I don't know what kind of style sheet they work off at Newsmax, but the use of "Prominent" feels like kind of an exaggeration.
Makes you wonder if they're also lying about Leonard's penis.
--
Now, for all I know, Herb Bates is the Rasputin of Palmyra, Maine, and when he laughs, respectable senators burst with laughter, and when he cries children die in the streets. But probably not.
He's just on the Budget Committee. The real power's with the Palmyra Board of Selectpersons.
But let's not get hung up on "Boss" Bates. Here's the whole list, in Newsmax order.
Former Phoenix Mayor Paul Johnson (Arizona)
Former Arizona State Legislator Phil Hubbard (Arizona)Mammoth Mayor Craig Williams (Arizona)
(Population 2,167, by the way.)
Former Arizona LULAC Director Ray Gans (Arizona)
Democratic 25th Precinct Chair Silverio "Silver" Salazar (Colorado)Adviser to Democratic Presidential Candidates and Georgetown University Professor
Robert Lieber (District of Columbia)
(According to his Georgetown bio, he's not only the author of fourteen books on international relations, he can also read, but not speak, French.)
Blogger on HillaryClinton.com Renee Slater (Florida)
(Not the Renee Slater!)
Former Sheriff of Highlands County Howard Godwin (Florida)
Jewish Outreach Adviser to Senator Hillary Clinton Rabbi Cheryl JacobsGeorgia Political Director for Gore-Lieberman '00 Joseph O'Farrell Jr. (Georgia)
Former Democratic Des Moines County Chair Bruce Shulte (Illinois)
Former State Representative Brian Golden (Massachusetts)
Commander of Newport Memorial-VFW Post 1119 Francis Harding, Jr. (Maine)
Former Palmyra Budget Committee Member Herb Bates (Maine)
(Home of the Madawaska Bog Wildlife Preserve!)
Former Lt. Governor and State Supreme Court Justice Alexander "Sandy" Keith (Minnesota)
Former U.S Representative and 2002 Independence Party gubernatorial candidate Tim Penny (Minnesota)Former State Representative Steve Wenzel (Minnesota)
City Clerk Judi May (Mississippi)
(Specifically, Mendenhall, Mississippi. Population 2,555.)
County Supervisor Gary Dearman (Mississippi)
Alderman Bill Mosby (Mississippi)
(Specifically, Canton. Town motto: "What you need, when you need it." Which, when you think about it, would also be a pretty good motto for Vialipro ®.)
Former State Representative Jim Gamache (Missouri)
Presiding Commissioner in New Madrid County, Clyde Hawes (Missouri)
(Population 895.)
Former Concord Mayor Bill Veroneau (New Hampshire)
Former Democratic Mayor of Waterford Township George Fallon (New Jersey)Former Democratic Committeeman in Warren Township Jeffrey Golkin (New Jersey)
Former State Chair of Environmentalists for Clinton-Gore 1992 Roberta Weisbrod (New York)
Former Majority Leader in the State Senate David Carlin (Rhode Island)
Former Texas Democratic Party Chairman Roy Orr (Texas)
Elected National Delegate for Senator Hillary Clinton Debra Bartoshevich (Wisconsin)
Former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Philip Frye (West Virginia)
(They'll probably regret putting his name on the list. Philip Frye is a headcase. Frye is a West Virginia VCR repairman who ran for office because then-governor Jim Wise was having an affair with his wife. (And not even returning her rewound.) He got 1% of the vote.)
--
The most prominent Democrat on his list is a VCR repairman/cuckold. If the Coen brothers started making funny movies again, he wouldn't even get a whole one to himself.
But here's the thing that really struck me, the more I thought about this pathetic list: Is there anyone in America who hasn't worked for the government?
Does it really take five guys to govern Palmyra, Maine? What would happen to New Madrid County without a Presiding Commissioner? Would Dunklin County invade and take away their freedom?
When John McCain says government is too big, what do these people think he means?
Who are we kidding?
John McCain was in the navy and then he was in the U.S. Senate. He has never cashed a check a bureaucrat didn't write. I'm not trying to be glib, and I realize he was doing a solemn and dangerous job, killing people from the sky. But it was still government work.
Wait, except for those years as a POW. A sick but undeniable fact about John McCain: The only period in his life when he wasn't living off the American taxpayer, he was living off the Vietnamese taxpayer.
John McCain's father was in the navy and his father was in the navy. The last McCain who didn't live in government housing owned a plantation in Mississippi when the state still had slaves.
Which is why John McCain always sounds so emotional when he gets to this line in his stump speech:
"I am absolutely committed to reducing the size of government."
What he's promising is eventually he'll die.

Oh, by the way, John Glenn's fine.

The Bush family has had it's snout deep in the public pig trough for a couple of generations now.
The tax payers spent millions bailing out brother Neil in his Colorado savings and loan mess. Dubya was a drunken, failed oil man who was bailed out of his "bidness" by poppy's buddies. Dubya made most of his $$$ off the Texas Ranger stadium deal--using his connections to seize the land under it at cheap prices with "eminent domain" and then selling his share for 15 million.
Wake up America! The Repub's who rail against big government just use it to line their pockets; they specialize in crony capitalism. They blather on about bowing down to the false idol of the free market, but are the first to run to daddy or the government for a bail out (like Bear Sterns). They use our tax-payer dollars like an unlimited ATM for their no-bid contracts. I could go on, but have to watch my blood pressure.
Dubya or McCain would be no where on their own merit. It burns me that Dubya is sashaying around Europe on a farewell tour like a little prince on public dime, once again. Yes, I'm bitter. Bitter the shit-kickers voted him in TWICE!! and the rest of us have had to live with it. Please Lord, let us pass on McCain.
The wealthiest people in politics today are democrats. Do your homework before you vent your silly partisan angst.
It isn't about which politician has the most money, it is about which party is looking out for those people who don't have the most money. Look at the multi-million dollar CEO's, business magnates and directors of hedge funds... You couldn't swing a stick without hitting a Conservative Republican or Libertarian.
I want recognition in the form of tax breaks, credits, health insurance, guaranteed equal access to education, and retirement benefits for the middle and working class people who actually toil in factories and offices making the products and rendering the services that the wealthy are making their money on.
one former congressman, three ex-mayors and former Palmyra, Maine Budget Committee Member Herb Bates
and a partridge in a pear tree.
Couldn't resist.
Does "Newsmax have an official maildrop?
I've been suspicious of them for some time.
Gawd....Tim Penny too. He was on my list of Minnesotans I admire. Not the longest list in the world. Cross him off.
Sheesh...after all of these years, make that decades, apparently Sandy Keith is still angry about not getting his shot at being governor of MN. My husband and I were wondering just the other day what had become of him. Some of these fringe Democrats can sure hold a grudge!
Just a list of people that should be investigated for being on the take.
It was widely rumored that in 2004, McCain was Kerry's first choice for VP and many have called McCain "Kerry's best friend" in the Senate. Who knows? A McCain VP could have likely spelled the difference between victory and defeat. Hillary Clinton has been no less kind to McCain.
You're welcome to engage in crass historical revisionism to paint McCain as an archenemy to Democrats in the Senate, and I imagine you all will continue doing so. That is the Obama MO. Those of us who actually remember history know better.
As part of your history, do you remember McCain voted with Bush 95% of the time? He may not be an arch enemy, but is definitely no friend to democratic causes.
Right on Chris!! I'm still laughing. The Repubs are so desparate and I'm enjoying it immensely.
Of all the people listed as "prominent" Democrats supporting McCain, the most intriguing one was a professor of government and international relations at Georgetown University. When you consider that John McCain's agenda is, essentially, the abolition of constitutional rights, religious freedom, and social safety nets in domestic affairs and limitless bellicosity in international ones, it's fascinating to think that an academic, an intellectual supposedly, could support it. It's as though the department of such a professor should not really be government or international affairs, but rather fine arts, in that his special field of expertise raises depravity to an art form. Other courses offered by the fine arts department could include Holocaust denial and DeGobineau's theories of white superiority.
Tim Penny gone off the reservation again? Shucks. He seemed to have had such great promise.
Newsmax is nothing more than a part of the propaganda tool used to manipulate the American public.
This system of network propaganda is extremely effective & it does it's job quite well. How else could such a system generate a culture were nearly half of the public believe that whatever the "government" does, has to be right regardless of whether or not it involves cruelty, abuse, both covert & outright violations of Constitutional & International Law (including a general point of view that it is okay to bend & twist Constitutional & International Law to fit into this new era of government inspired cruelty & abuse) & a general culture of absolute corruption in both government & business.
Newsmax is only a very small part of a massive problem now endemic & fostered by government in the American system. Now that it has been ingrained in our system, it will be hell trying to set things right if that is a possibility at all. And if that is possible, it will occur only after a generation or more of hard work by true patriots to accomplish that.
What a second! Did you catch the lede on this story?
"Sen. John McCain's campaign has announced...."
The pathos doesn't belong to Max, it has been piped in from the McCain campaign. This is *their* desperate and pathetic claim on significance! In fact, this is JOHN MCCAIN'S desperate, "tomorrow, the world!" boast we're reading here.
That was funny as hell!
Don't forget "ex" Democrat Joe Lieberman and his protege, Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY). Though Engel hasn't come out for McCain yet, he insisted on reserving Bush's right to invade Iran without Congressional approval, backs Bush's Colombian trade deal after his "pro-business" Medellin junket with Condoleezza Rice, and - get this - has been making appearances for Rev. John Hagee. All issues that have everything to do with representing hawkish right wing Israeli lobbyists and entrenched business interests, while ignoring the concerns of New York's 17th Congressional District.
Noooooooooo..... not the former Mayor of Phoenix Paul Johnson.
All hope is lost, we are defeated. Why God, why?
Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects...
