Prominent Democrats Back McCain- Newsmax.com headline 6/15/08
I usually only read Newsmax for the non-prescription boner pill ads. ("Not only can I get it up, but I can also last for a while." -- Vialipro ®. "Leonard has a larger penis. There is no doubt about it." -- Orexis ™) But when I saw the headline about prominent Democrats backing McCain, I had to click on it.
Who would it be? Gore? Daschle? Byrd? John Glenn?
Were the wounds from the primaries so deep? Were there new doubts about Barack? Was the party tearing itself apart? Is John Glenn even alive?
Relax.
It turns out when Newsmax says "prominent Democrats" they mean one former congressman, three ex-mayors and former Palmyra, Maine Budget Committee Member Herb Bates.
I don't know what kind of style sheet they work off at Newsmax, but the use of "Prominent" feels like kind of an exaggeration.
Makes you wonder if they're also lying about Leonard's penis.

Now, for all I know, Herb Bates is the Rasputin of Palmyra, Maine, and when he laughs, respectable senators burst with laughter, and when he cries children die in the streets. But probably not.
He's just on the Budget Committee. The real power's with the Palmyra Board of Selectpersons.

The most prominent Democrat on his list is a VCR repairman/cuckold. If the Coen brothers started making funny movies again, he wouldn't even get a whole one to himself.
But here's the thing that really struck me, the more I thought about this pathetic list: Is there anyone in America who hasn't worked for the government?
Does it really take five guys to govern Palmyra, Maine? What would happen to New Madrid County without a Presiding Commissioner? Would Dunklin County invade and take away their freedom?
When John McCain says government is too big, what do these people think he means?
Who are we kidding?
John McCain was in the navy and then he was in the U.S. Senate. He has never cashed a check a bureaucrat didn't write. I'm not trying to be glib, and I realize he was doing a solemn and dangerous job, killing people from the sky. But it was still government work.
Wait, except for those years as a POW. A sick but undeniable fact about John McCain: The only period in his life when he wasn't living off the American taxpayer, he was living off the Vietnamese taxpayer.
John McCain's father was in the navy and his father was in the navy. The last McCain who didn't live in government housing owned a plantation in Mississippi when the state still had slaves.
Which is why John McCain always sounds so emotional when he gets to this line in his stump speech:
"I am absolutely committed to reducing the size of government."
What he's promising is eventually he'll die.

I almost had to take another shower because this article was too funny. I should have known that anyone with half a brain wouldn't be switching to McCain, unless they like being on the losing ticket. This man would surely be the downfall of the United States. Go Obama 08.

The one that cinches it for me is "Former Arizona LULAC Director Ray Gans". You don't think the good people of Arizona would have anybody who was less that prominent directing their lulacs, do you?
Perhaps Mr. Gans will become embittered when his hopes are dashed, and defect to our ecology-centered third party. Then we can truly sing, "Green Grows the LULACs"!
I had to google them, just to make sure. Did you know that is an organization with its very own Captain America shield? Seriously! They got their website to totally watermarked with it, in case you missed it the first 50 or so times.
Actually, Newsmax is the fake boner pill of news, as in, "My boyfriend took Newsmax and now his brain is 32.7% larger." Newsmax is not for everyone and the increase in brain size will only continue as long you continue to read Newsmax. In clinical studies, Newsmax caused no more side effects than did sugar pills. Readers should also not mix Newsmax with talking points as mixing half-truths with lies may cause dizziness and nausea.
What is it with this Newsmax? I know they're an online version of Fox Noise, but did YOU know that if you subscribe to their headline feed, there is no way to get off the list? I looked for an "unsubscribe" icon or hyperlink on their email and could not find one. Shouldn't some enterprising soul see if a flap couldn't be raised over this alone? Is there a law that requires sites to inform subscribers in each email that they can unsub by going to a page and doing so? Every other feed I get has that provision in each email. To me, not providing such info is dishonest.
Just because Arizona is at the very bottom of the list in providing education and health care to children, and mental health services generally, to name only a few of our total failures under the great flabby weight of republican dominance, doesn't mean we should be listed so prominently and with such derogation in this very amusing blog. We also provided Mo Udall, and are working very hard to throw off the chains with which we have been bound by the Goldwaterites. Obama may just be the man who can get out the vote to accomplish that goal. We don't need any more people to move here and vote republican because they believe the myth that democratic rule destroyed the rust belt, so don't talk us up too much, but hanging the trash around our neck doesn't help. A bit of explanation about how "rugged individualism" really means "divide and conquer" might.

When you depend on oil you always have to keep bringing in new wells. And, I believe we have bases in the middle east that we are not aware of. For all we know our embassy ( The Fortress ) is a "well stocked ready to go future attack base" camp. McCain wakes up each day and decides what he
is Pro and what he is Anti. He never knows from day to day, sometimes from hour to hour what his stand is on any given subject. And these ex-Democrats want him as their man in the White House ?
At least we see that progressive technology of cars has been surpressed by our government.

Drill for oil? I am not against drilling for oil - but not when it is only a small reserve and could endanger species that are already having problems - because I am assuming you mean in ANWR and on the coast. Oil spills don't just affect wildlife - they affect you too!

But it sounds to me like Newsmax is exactly where the mainstream media (MSM) get their "narratives" from. These guys stay up nights cooking this stuff up using (from what I can tell) a bit of the old Neurolinguistic Programming sly-boots reframing technique, and then they "bait" the MSM with headlines like this that they know the MSM will snap at. And so the MSM do, because the MSM are incapable of critical thinking or original thought. In fact, reading this, I had this aha! moment. So THAT'S where the MSM are getting the journalistic crapola they dish out....
These guys are so "prominent" their own mothers couldn't pick them out of a lineup.

But it goes all around. The Obamamedia now has a "momentum" story about Clinton's ex-staffer coming aboard the Obama train. Wow, you think she did that for free? But this is considered "news." Like the mystery one or two superdelegates who switched from Hillary to Obama everyday weeks back. It is all "momentum" news, crafted for the gullible.
i guess you didn't take the time to read the story. it's not that it's a "momentum" story (why does he need momentum, he's already won the nom?), the essence of the story is that this hire probably means no vp slot for hrc. i would deem this newsworthy, but then again, i actually read the story.
I recall writing Newsmax about their article on whether Obama was in the congregation in the Sunday after 9/11. In the back and forth that ensued, it was VERY clear they were not interested in being a purveyor of facts.
P.S. They finally had to eat a shit sandwich and retract the story.
First, I must protest the description of Newsmax (not by Kelly) as part of the "media". Newsmax is not a legitimate media outlet, it is purely a right wing propaganda mill.
Second, I'm sure the propagandists at Newsmax know full well that their list is, in reality, quite ridiculous. However, since objective reality is of little or no use to those on the right, they will use any self-serving thing they think they can get away with. They no doubt figure that their Ideologically Sound readers will use this list as a talking point to trash Obama. Being zealous right-wingers, they will throw lots of, ummm, fertilizer against the wall in the hope that some of it will stick.
Finally, perhaps I don't travel in the right circles, but I almost never see any reference to Auden's poem Epitaph. I first encountered it in the version set to music by Tom Rapp. Here is the actual poem:

WRONG. Huffington Post is not a propaganda mill as they pass the fact check test routinely.
I think what they were says, Vericose, is that Newsmax has no allegiance to the truth, to the facts of a story, and will put up headlines like "Prominent" Democrats do such-and-such, when in fact NONE of the people involved were Prominent Demcrats.
Now, I certainly haven't read every HuffPo story, but I am pretty sure the editors wouldn't let a headline like that slide by.
