Embrace the Fashionista Inside of You

Whether you live in Hollywood or the Midwest, whether you shop at Barney’s or Walmart, everybody wants to look good. Looking good makes you feel good. So embrace the fashonista inside of you. Start by making your bed first thing in the morning. When you have an orderly environment, you have an easier day.

After I make my bed, I lay out my clothes like a person laying on my bed. The blanket becomes my canvas and the clothes are like my paint. I get inspired and lay out three or four outfits so I'm covered for the next week. Then I roll them up in piles in corners of my bedroom.

Women should do the same. It saves time too because there is nothing worse than leaving the house in clothes that you are not comfortable wearing. So take your time until you're comfortable. Sometimes I'll retry those outfits before I go to bed. And always have a full-length mirror in your house.

Don't feel guilty about your clothes. Take the time to care about what you're wearing so you don't have to worry about it later. You should feel so good about your outfits that if someone compliments you on your outfit you'll have to look down to remember what you're wearing. It’s important to take time to do that.

You can go into your wardrobe and find old things that you have that go with new things that you have. You can save money by mixing. Find the time to go into your wardrobe to find things you haven't worn in a long time and know you're never going to wear again -- and get rid of them!

Give these “never wear again” things to charity so they can find someone else who will appreciate them. I live down the street from “Out of the Closet”, a thrift store that supports the fight against AIDS. During the holidays you must remember to be true to your authentic style and be comfortable rather than dress up. Keep your jeans on but put a sweater on which dresses you up nicely.

Last night I went to a premiere and I kept my jeans on and put a V-Neck sweater with a t-shirt underneath and a Patagonia jacket and the colors were dark grays, greens and brown. Some people were dressed up, some people weren't. That’s LA.
