In today's installment of McCain vs. McCain, the "straight talker" claimed credit for passage of the 21st Century GI Bill of Rights he opposed.
When Fighting Dem Jim Webb vowed to give patriots who enlisted after 9/11 the same opportunity for a first-class education offered to the greatest generation after World War Two, McCain said NO.
When dozens of Veterans Service Organization led by Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and VoteVets.org, and bipartisan Congressional majorities led by Fighting Dem Senator Jim Webb (D-VA), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), Senate Leader Harry Reid, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Congressman Harry Mitchell (D-AZ), pushed to make the 21st Century GI Bill of Rights a reality, McCain said NO.
When Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton endorsed the 21st Century Bill of Rights, McCain said NO -- even going so far as to offer his own watered-down so-called substitute.
But the Fighting Dems beat back the Bush-McCain opposition, the bill sailed through the Congress and now -- rather than admit he was wrong -- McCain is claiming credit for the bill he opposed at every turn. Today in Ohio McCain said:
I'm happy to tell you that we probably agreed to an increase in educational benefits for our veterans that not only gives them increase in their educational benefits, but if they stay in for a certain period of time than they can transfer those educational benefits to their spouses and or children.
Here's the clip:
We?
Well.
I'm happy to tell you that the 21st Century GI Bill of Rights will become law. I just wish McCain had not opposed it so long before he supported it. Our heroes need a President who is an ally not a roadblock in their pursuit of the American dream.

I wish people would stop calling soldiers 'heroes." Is simply being a soldier really heroic? I have to say, no. In the end, it waters down true heroism. What do we call the soldier (or civilian) who actually DOES something heroic? A Super Hero?!?
So, let us heed George Orwell's warning and remember that language MATTERS. Words must have meaning - or we will become victims to 'compassionate conservatism' or the Clear Skies Initiative, war is peace, etc. etc.
on this one you are correct.
along the same lines
Tolerance does not mean acceptance. Tolerance is the act of putting up with somebody irritating or otherwise unpleasant. Acceptance is the willingness to accept somebody as a member of a group or Social circle. Just because I Tolerate you does not mean I will have you over for dinner.
SAY WHAT!! WORDS CANNOT BE TRUSTED MCBUSH¦.. OH REALLY?
Lawmakers are not above the laws they write. Specifically, John McCain agreed to public financing limitations and should be prosecuted for exceeding spending limits in the Primary. Also, McCain"s campaign should be terminated. He qualified to appear on the ballot in several States by accepting public funds and now wants to back out of public financing.

It is a disgusting thing to hear and see this coming from a man who opposed the bill then praises the bill and but did not vote on the bill, what a dispicable man and he does not deserve to be running for president muchless win.
what dispicable man are we speaking of BO? An unqualified man like that, he does not deserve to be running for president much less win.
This is where the compliant media really upsets me.
They want to hold Sen.Obama responsible for everything his supporters have ever said.
They refuse to hold Sen.McCain responsible for things he says himself.
I roger that. Meet the Press: Chuck Todd on Obama opting out of public funding and not a word said about j how McCain diced the system (actually breaking campaign finance laws), when he flipped in and out with a loan in between. I'm convinced MSM wants to portray this as a close race and will do whatever they can to make it so.
McCain will back any bill that does not cost money unless its money for war or for the rich. If you cut those 2 out, he will vote against but take credit for passage if it passes.
Somehow McCain who is very wealthy imagines that he is just common folk. Between him and his wife, their income is at least $300,000 per month. They keep up 11 residences and a private jet. Thois makes them richer than at least 99% of Americans. His connection to common folks is that he lives in North America and so do they.
His connection to the common folks is that he flies over them in his wife's private jet 2-3 times a day, and they have paid his salary his ENTIRE ADULT LIFE.
Obama is running a ad on TV where he claims to have passed a law that helped the troops in some way. Obama was not involved in any way and didn't ever vote for it, that part was a complete lie.
Get your facts straight. The GI Bill was the work fo Senator Jim Webb. Obama voted for it. It was McCain who didn't bother to vote for it at all:
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=2&vote=00162
McCain likes soldiers when they're out fighting his wars, and he'll spend any amount of money to keep the wars going. But he doesn't seem to have much interest in veterans, especially if there's money involved.
McCain is like that other glorious veteran Bob Dole who is so embittered by his country that he spends his entire life taking it out on others. Just a few months ago he failed to show up for a Senate vote when it denied extending unemployment benefits for the truly needy, the ones who didn't marry into wealth for instance.
Unlike Hegel who showed and happily voted against the unemployed, McCain didn't feel the need to be on the record. One can't be more arrogant than that.
So if you vote for this heartless man and if his policies as president hurt you, then don't complain: ever
Sorry Hank, wrong!
The "Dignity for Wounded Warriors Act" (March 2007) which he crafted and introduced along with Sen. McCaskill, addressing the deplorable conditions at Walter Reed, et al

And here's another one for ya, Hank
"Obama/McCaskill Military Job Family Protection Act"
Legislation introduced by U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) that would provide up to a full year of job protection for a family member who is caring for a service member recovering from combat-related injuries today passed the Senate. The Military Family Job Protection Act, introduced by Senators Barack Obama and Claire McCaskill (D-MO), passed as an amendment to the reauthorization of the Children"s Health Insurance Program.
This amendment would ensure that military families not be forced to wonder whether their job will still be there when they get back home and would ease the burden on service members who must focus on their own recovery. This approach was endorsed last week by the President"s Commission. Obama was also joined in this amendment by Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA), John Kerry (D-MA), Mary L. Landrieu (D-LA), Richard J. Durbin (D-IL), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Edward Kennedy (D-MA), and Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE).

Oops! Are those crickets I hear coming from old Hank48188 instead of a response?
Part of his original position was that a better G.I. Bill would hurt retention rates. Does that mean that aperson who seeks to educate themselves is less likely to step in front of a bullet than one who doesn't care to learn? Or does it mean that a person who doesn't seek to better themselves is more likely to follow orders than one who seeks to enhance their mind and give themselves options?
As a vet, I'd say the possibility that a person risking dodging a bullet for the chance of an education might augment the ranks in number has been under estimated.
Mr. McCain was on the other coast at a fundraiser when the Senate voted on the bill. In fact, Mr. McCain appears to have been elsewhere whenever any Senate bill has come up for a vote.
Mr. McCain should not try to build a lifetime reputation on one truly noble period of his life. It occurred many years ago.
McCain's got more positions than the freakin' Kama Sutra. I keep wondering when somebody beyond the community that is typically dismissed by conservatives as "liberal" and "far left" is going to notice and comment.
Christine get a life. He's running for President, politicans will say what they think the people want to hear, al politicans do it even Obama.
If I understand McCain's behaviour correctly, then all I can say is that what he is doing disgusts me.
It amazes me that nobody picks up on Mcsames repeated flops.
We have almost no factual coverage from msm.
Radio is filled with fixed news and Limbaugh.
It is no wonder that Bush won and that this race will be close.
If you don't search for the truth all you will hear is distortions and lies.
People are lazy they will believe the lies.
"We have met the enemy and he is us!"
Yep. The MSM has picked their side and they will do whatever they can to sleep-walk this demented man into the WH. He not only flip flops, he contradicts himself and more than half the time he does not even remember what he just said a few hours ago. His 95 year-old mother has a better memory. May be his captivity did more damage than we have been led to believe.
How do I know he supports Sen. Webb's version? He didn't vote on it...in fact, only he and Sen. Kennedy didn't vote on the supplemental that included the GI Bill. And Kennedy has an excuse. This goes back to him not voting since April 8...sure, others have missed votes while on the trail, but at least when they've been in town, they've voted! (There were four votes that night, and Obama only missed a judicial appointment vote.)
I'd say he should follow Dole's lead and resign from the Senate to concentrate on his run, except he virtually has - leaving his buddy Sen. Graham to do his dirty work by calling Obama out by name on the floor, while Sen. McConnell constantly refers to "the Democratic nominee for president." The Democrats' hands aren't clean on this, but I thought they were supposed to keep presidential politics out of Congressional matters?
The other reason McCain won't resign? The little fact of Arizona having a Democrat as governor. Which would give the Dems 52 in the Senate. Which might go back to 51, as I'm sure some of the caucus would clamor to have Lieberman booted...he's going to be a man without a party in truth very soon, I think.
While I actually voted against the GI bill, I thought it was the one we passed for WW2 vets in 1947! I did'nt know it was the one for present -day war vets! which I must take credit for! So there! Johnny "Bomb!Bomb!" McCain, your next beloved War Presinator
p.s. I am not a flop-flipper, I don't even know what a flop-flopper looks like, Johnny BB McCain
Now I've been watching Larry King on CNN and although they have spent nearly an hour with experts discussing Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton's "body language" to see if they are really united I finally did hear something about John McCain. After about an hour of talking about nothing but whether Obama and Clinton can actually kiss and make up, I did hear at least a couple comments concerning John McCain's tendency to flip flop on issues, even though his latest flip flop still hasn't been mentioned. But at least one person pointed out that McCain flip flops on a number of issues. That person was Arianna Huffington. Anybody ever heard of her.
Speaking of John McCain's flip flops. I've decided after twenty four years, I'm going to start calling myself a teenager again. You see, I've decided if McCain can continue to call himself a maverick after eight plus years of flip flopping then I can decide to be a teenager again. If its good enough for McCain to continue to call himself something current facts refute then I can do the same! I'm a forty three year old TEENAGER!
The press needs a tight race or they stand a good chance of losing an audience. Polls show Obama up by 12-15 % For them this is not good so don't expect any, ANY, negative coverage of McCain until these numbers tighten up to say 5-6%
