Christine Stansell is a feminist historian who writes about American women and American culture. She was a professor of history at Princeton University and currently is Stein-Freiler Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago. Her books are POWERS OF DESIRE:THE POLITICS OF SEXUALITY (co-authored with Ann Snitow and Sharon Thompson), CITY OF WOMEN; SEX AND CLASS IN NEW YORK, 1789-1860 and AMERICAN MODERNS: BOHEMIAN NEW YORK AND THE CREATION OF A NEW CENTURY (2000). She writes regularly for THE NEW
REPUBLIC.
