Christof Putzel is a correspondent for Current TV’s no-limits
documentary series, “Vanguard.”

A third generation news reporter, Christof is a senior correspondent
and producer for Current TV. In the last two years, he has been
nominated for three Emmys and won an Alfred I. duPont Award, a
Livingston Award, a National Headliner Award, and two Webby Awards. He
has worked in over a dozen countries to produce multiple documentaries
for Current’s Vanguard journalism team. In addition to Current, his
work has appeared on ABC’s Nightline, Good Morning America, CBC, and
the Sundance Channel.

 Christof began his production career while still an undergraduate at
Connecticut College, where he produced and directed his first
documentary, Left Behind, about AIDS orphans in Kenya. After screening
at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival, Left Behind went on to win a Student
Academy Award, a Student Emmy, a Silver Chris Award, the International
Documentary Association’s David Wolper Award and the HBO Films Award.

 Christof grew up in Washington, DC and lived in Moscow during the
collapse of the Soviet Union. His journalism roots go back more than
two generations. His father, Michael Putzel, covered the Vietnam War
and the White House for AP, before joining The Boston Globe as
Washington bureau chief. His mother, Ann Blackman, was a correspondent
for Time Magazine and reporter for AP before becoming a successful
author. His grandfather, Samuel G. Blackman, was top editor of The
Associated Press.
