One Foot in the Grave and One at the Movies

"Free Movie Night for Seniors" is being promoted to residents of Windsor Gardens, a retirement community on Alameda near Quebec. This monthly presentation of free films, free refreshments and a raffle for DVDs of each evening's film sounds like a pretty good deal for thrifty retirees.

The venue is a landmark building in a quiet area, a virtual "wildlife sanctuary in the city," the organizer says. What makes it plum weird is that the films are being shown in the imposing Gothic-syle mortuary chapel of the nearby Fairmount Cemetery . Is the idea to make the not-yet-departed feel at home at Fairmount before the final move?
