Clay Burns is the executive director of Envirothon, a non-profit organization that hosts North America’s largest high school environmental education competition.

Prior to joining Envirothon in 2001, Mr. Burns spent six years as education director at Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission. At the Commission, Mr. Burns developed and implemented natural resource conservation curriculum for school-age children and adults. He spearheaded the effort to establish the Envirothon program in Mississippi and chaired the Mississippi 2001 Steering Committee responsible for bringing the 2001 Canon Envirothon to the state.

Mr. Burns began his career in the classroom. He worked as an educator in Mississippi and Louisiana school systems for nine years where he taught high school science courses. During this time he also conducted in-service workshops for peers, taught adult education classes and served as a Title 1 chairperson.

Mr. Burns received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Mississippi College, and his graduate studies were conducted at Nichols State University and the University of Southern Mississippi.
