Cliff Chenfeld, the Co-CEO of Razor & Tie and Kidz Bop, was born in Albany, NY and moved to Columbus Ohio when he was 10. After graduating from Ohio State University in 1981 with honors and a degree in Political Science, Chenfeld took a year off during which he worked as a musician and at a record store.

He moved to New York in 1982 to attend New York University School of Law. After graduating in 1985, Chenfeld clerked for Federal District Court Judge I. Leo Glasser in Brooklyn and then joined Sullivan & Cromwell as a litigation associate.

In 1990, Chenfeld, along with law school classmate Craig Balsam, created Razor & Tie, an independent record label. Operating out of Chenfeld’s apartment for the first two years, the company achieved quick success and within two years had earned a Gold Record for the album Disco Fever.

Settling into offices at 214 Sullivan Street in Greenwich Village, the company expanded in the 1990s to include publishing, media buying and home video units. During the 1990s, the company scored a number of Gold and Platinum albums.

In 2001, Razor & Tie created Kidz Bop, a CD series aimed at the tween market. The series was an instant smash and quickly became the best selling kids music series in the country. Since 2001, Kidz Bop has sold over 13 million units and has expanded to include a successful website and personalities as well as a robust marketing, distribution and advertising platform.

Today Razor & Tie is one of the most successful independently owned companies in the country. With over 60 employees, the company is growing rapidly in a challenging environment.

In addition to owning and running Razor & Tie and Kidz Bop, Chenfeld was also the Executive Producer of two recent movies –- Serious Moonlight, starring Meg Ryan and Timothy Hutton and How Sweet The Sound, an American Masters/PBS documentary on Joan Baez.
