Hypocrisy On Larry Craig Continues

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Republicans are trying right now to get away with dismissing this as another "overblown [no pun intended, for sure] media scandal". While running away from Craig at warp speed.

Um, ok guys. You see an "overblown media scandal" was when you tried to impeach Bill Clinton over his personal behavior, and Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Newt Gingrich, David Vitter, Bob Livingston and the rest of your band of self-hating misfits supported it.

Your lead candidate in the presidential race is Rudy Giuliani, who treats marriage like a drive-thru at McDonalds. Then there is dream candidate Fred Thompson, whose girlfriend and FORMER wife was probably not dreaming of having him impregnate her in high school.

This is NOT a media scandal. It is your whole damn party. It is why I do Republican Sexcapades every Thursday (8AM EST) on The Young Turks. And I have to eliminate topics each week.

You guys love the Bible. Try practicing the Golden Rule and then maybe, maybe, I'll have some sympathy.

Oh, and finally, do you think Hugh Hewitt's inviting David Dreier on his show to talk about it and MSNBC's having Armstrong Williams on for a discussion of this topic really makes sense? For those who don't understand, just google their names and get creative about what else you throw in. Then you'll get it.

The fact that A REPUBLICAN could be a HOMOSEXUAL does not surprise me. Every thinking person knows that their so-called purist family value thing is hypocritical.

The thing that puzzles me is why these imbeciles do these things in a public restroom.
If they have a need to have sex (homosexual, hetrosexual whatever) why don't they pursue it in the privacy of their own home or hotel room.

Well, I would assume the reason is because the urges are so incredibly repressed and therefore manifest themselves in strange, over the top ways at a moments notice.

Average joe that's cheating might just have a standard hotel-room-romp, but repressed guy who spends time with fake smiles in church and runs on values and morals on the other hand...

Find the conservative guy yelling the loudest about there being a conspiracy to promote a "gay agenda" and you'll find a public park or airport men's room aficionado.

Good idea!!

Too bad, it has already been claimed by the party of the greatest silver-soon-in-the-mouth, the Commie-sympathizing, Unle-Joe-loving FDR, the philandering tomcat JFK, the beagle-hating LBJ and the worst ever president Jimmy Carter, the Democrats.

One decent break among this bunch of sorry losers is Harry Truman.

Oh, come on! Jimmy Carter stopped being "the worst president" the day that George W. Bush was elected.

The Republican Party's relentless focus on the "family values" red herring has attracted perverts to the GOP like moths to stadium lights.

It will keep happening as long as the GOP takes pride in its extreme views of personal and private behavior. Those who feel overwhelmed by "deviant" urges are likely to gravitate to the opposite extreme as a form of self-medication. (And yes, the same phenomenon is at work with Catholic priests too.)

Excellent post, BigTuna. Your analogy is right on. When you fear and hate your own feelings, finding an allegiance that may protect or innoculate you from them must be mighty appealing.

Amen and hallelujah.

In the last four years in Hawaii, we've seen two GOP state representatives convicted of sexual deviant behavior -- Rep. Brian Blundell, who attempted to fondle an undercover policeman in a Kapiolani Park men's room in Waikiki, and House Minority Leader Galen Fox, who was found guilty of sexual battery by a Los Angeles federal court judge, for groping the crotch of a young woman on an airline flight as she slept in the seat next to him.

Like Larry Craig, both claimed that their respective incidents were "misunderstandings".

Then there's a certain multi-married GOP state senator, Sam Slom, a self-promoting right-wing blowhard who apparently views wives and girlfriends like they're Mercedes automobiles -- take good care of them for a few years, and then trade them in for a newer model.

A few weeks ago, the 54-year-old married chief of staff to our GOP Gov. Linda Lingle suddenly resigned when it was disclosed that not only did he have an teenaged Filipina mistress, but that he also solicited her girlfriends in high school to provide "companionship" to men accompanying the governor on a trade mission to Manila.

Any others hailing from other states or cities who know of incidents where the local Republicans got caught en flagrante (as the French would so appropriately say), please feel free to weigh in here.

Let's roust all the hypocrites from their hiding places, and tally 'em up for the GOP's own Nearer-to-God-than-Thee base to see and reconcile with what they've heretofore thought abot these Bozos.

I laugh myself when I hear the reference to "family values" as I know, as most, that it doesn't really exist, else there would not be an over 50% divorce rate in the USA. Family values was something picked up by the leftist media from a 1993 republican convention speech by Gingrich and echoed ever since. Since then it has passed into dem legend, a myth, perpetrated by the dem bloggers making a vacuous point against the republicans. Ignorant people like to harp on about catholic priests' lapses, forgetting that millions over the centuries have served with purity -- not in the eyes of the haters, though. Catholic priests are mere men, suffering the failings of most men, but an absolute-most can overcome their failings. Only those with a shaded mind and lifeless heart would dare damn them as an example of common phenomena. Such is a common trait found among the ignorant to selectively pull from the least amount of examples the weaknesses of men and women in order to amplify their ignorant points to diminish perceived enemies, as the dems consider the repubs.

What I can't figure out, is why are these guys always Republicans? Why aren't they Dem's? Why don't they want equal rights and opportunities for gays? If the Dem's could somehow manage to get the closet gay vote, I think it would be the undoing of the Republican party!

Exactly! It's a sort of psychosis, isn't it?

That's easy, self-loathing!

Sad, but this is what comes of repression of basic human needs/desires!

Do you honestly think that the main stream media would report anything embarrassing about a Democrat?

What planet do you live on??

LOL I know! Like when the media totally didn't cover MonicaGate or the Swift Boat controversy or Dean's "YEAAARGH!" or Edwards' $400 haircut. The media is SO in the pocket of the Democrats, right?

Excellent point! I tried SO HARD in the 90's to find just ONE tiny little story, on TV, in newspapers, online, *anywhere* about the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal.

I swear, you couldn't find ANYONE talking about it! I mean, even comedians wouldn't talk about the story...think about the potential humor, they could've made jokes about, say, a blue dress, etc, but they didn't! The Liberal Media (TM) scared them into silence.

Just like the "I didn't inhale" line exposing Clinton's incredible addiction to marijuana.

Did the press cover that? Did you ever hear ANYONE using that phrase other than moderate voices like Limbaugh, O'Reilly or Hannity?

Because the republicans are hypocrites, plain and simple! They would rather appear to be self-righteous guardians of morality than actually demonstrate their own integrity through their actions. If Republicans could ever get over their aversion to gay people maybe more would come out of the closets of congress, find partners, and live openly gay lives rather than creeping around in men's lavatories while vilifying the very group they are soliciting. Democrats can at least stand behind equality and openness. If they wanted to fondle or blow someone they would do it the old-fashioned american way, go on a date... and a gay one at that. See, Dems don't have to hide behind the shroud of secrecy because they aren't ashamed of their gay constituents.

It seems nowadays the easiest way to find the GOP elite is 1) check mens rooms in parks, airports, etc..
2) check federal prison rosters.

3) check swinger personals.

These "resources" should produce most of the folks that matter in their party.

Of course, you can always check Barney Franks' date book. And of course, you can always check the FBI on Conressman Jefferson's file regardidng the 90K in the freezer. For the swingers, check out that bridge in Mass. Trying to act like the dems are as pure as the driven snow is kinda dumb.......neither party has the gold star for proper behavoir. Anyway, Senator Craig's private life is similar to Congressman Franks, right? None of us has the right to pass judegement no matter how straight.

When will you people get it through your heads that the behavior isn't the problem or the focus? It's the HYPOCRISY of railing against something in public and then doing it in private. Unless Barney Frank is on record against homosexuality, the two situations aren't even remotely similar.

Your post is a perfect example of why you right wingers are so pathetic. Frank never opposed gay rights while practicing them himself. You right wingers bill yourselves as the party of virtue and values--and you sell that crap to the stupid every election cycle.

One thing is very clear: the top of the RepubliCON party is infested with crooks, perverts and weirdos. And especially hypocrites. You have to struggle to name a few Democrats, while the list of RepubliCONs is immense.

Hypocrisy is standard operating procedure in the GOP these days. Ive seen pundits and Craig's political associates basically dropping him. This is a sign that Republicans need to stop smearing Hillary Clinton, and put their attentions on their own crumbling future.

Any person or entity that hides behind religion is a hypocrite! More often than not, these people use religion to cover up their misdeeds. I have stated before that the zealots and bigots in the Christian right are no different from the Islamic fundamentalists! Their modus operandi maybe different but their ends are the same: the conflating of State and Religion!

They legislate morality while they commit the most immoral acts. Be it taking us into an illegal war and its obvious consequences to vitiating our Constitution and the Geneva conventions, the hoards of these evil right have justified all their (in)actions by calling themselves "God's Party". Compulsive gamblers, liars, drug addicts, homosexuals (while bashing gays and lesbians), power grabbers, adulterers, chasing prostitutes to being simply retarded, the list is endless ...

These hypocrites are the most UN-American demographics while claiming to be the most patriotic!!!
