Give Peace a Chance at the RNC in St. Paul!

2008-08-07-PEACEPicnicfinalphotowebsize.jpg

Just think how much better this'll be swaying to some "Give Peace a Chance" music! This photo was taken last week when our picnic committee got together across from downtown St. Paul to plan and practice for September 4th across the Muddy Mississippi from the Republican National Convention.

As an artistically and musically-based gathering, we're hoping to set the Guinness World Record for a creative human peace sign -- that is, if we don't get the quantity, we'll go for quality! (And if plagiarism is the highest form of flattery, we aim to make Christo real proud! With only about 1/3 of our total banners, our message still came through really well last week, huh?)

More information about our "Peace Island Picnic", which is a project of the UnConvention, is located here and here.

So tell all your friends to come but make sure you warn them that no political speeches are planned for our finale like those across the river. Instead, after Tao Rodriquez-Seeger and other activist musicans lead us in a peace sing-a-long, we are expecting to close down the picnic with a sunset drum jam led by Brazilian group Batu Cada Do Norte! (With this artistic and musical excitement, I doubt anyone will really miss the political speeches.)

I think people should take a LONG LOOK AT THE 'PRE-EMPTIVE ARRESTS' being carried out this weekend to 'prepare' for the RNC.

Protesters, journalists & lawyers are being detained "pre-emptively". They also arrested "Democracy Now!" journalists...

Their data, documents, computers, digital storage, personal body fluids, home possessions are being 'obtained/confiscated/absconded' to "protect the RNC" from the malevolency of TRUTH, CITIZENS & peaceful demonstration.

Last week, it was journalists ignoring the , civil & human rights abuses on PEACEFUL PRIVACY RIGHTS PROTESTERS just beyond the AT&T DNC Denver 'PR Perimeter'-cum-GreenZone...

nice democracy ya got there.

St. Paul Police Conduct Mass Pre-Emptive Raids Ahead of Republican Convention

"Armed groups of police in the Twin Cities have raided more than half a dozen locations since Friday night in a series of “pre-emptive raids” before the Republican National Convention. The raids and detentions have targeted activists planning to protest the convention as well as journalists and videographers documenting police actions at protests."

As a Twin Citian I have to say "thank you".
This is the first bit of good news I have heard about the conventions (I use plural because of Ron Pauls MPLS convention).
I fully expect the Cities to be on lock down mode. Especially now that the death star is coming to town.
But I for one will be trying to stay away from crowds. But good luck.
