Karla was the only competitor that I liked and hoped would win at the end. I wish she had had the confidence to stick to her own menu and disregard Casey's suggestions. She would have been a much more interesting and deserving pick than either Hosea or Stephan. It was interesting that Stephan comforted her at the end - perhaps his cocky, arrogant exterior was a character for t.v. or not the whole story? Hosea was just boring and I hated the whole Hosea/Leah bit. Leah should have been out long before she was. I'd have liked the last three to be Karla, Ariane, and Jeff or Fabio.

I wanted Carla to take Top Chef also. Casey steered her wrong... Carla needed to say "no just do -- I have planned the menu". Hosea pissed me off early by playing head games with whats her name, getting all cozy and romantic when he has a good woman at home. I hope she leaves him... but he just won Top Chef so... guess not.

Favorite all time Top Chef: still Harold.

Chef Tom has always had snarky things to say about Carla; remember when Jacques Pepin was practically swooning over her food, and Colicchio was dismissive, minimizing her talent? And again, when Emeril was talking about how good her food was, Tom minimized his compliments by saying that she is from the South, so she naturally understands the cuisine. Unfortunately Carla screwed up in the finale; I was so in hopes that she would win, just to see Tom squirm.

What is the moral of Carla, you ask. Yes, the obvious is that she should have cooked her food her way and told Casey to go chop celery and shut up. But that is not the Carla we saw through the season. She said at the end, when she'd gotten herself back together, that she was proud of being a competitor who didn't trash talk or throw ego tantrums, and she was right to be proud of that. And yet that same easygoing, non-ego-involved persona is what let her listen to Casey and try something she didn't know how to do well in the finale. (Which raises the question: if Richard had been her sous chef, would that sous-vide have been good?) The souffle disaster is on her for leaving the oven too high, and Tom's snarky idea that souffles would have been no good even if they'd come out properly made no sense to me. How can you judge a dish you didn't eat?

So, Carla dear, you may not have stayed true to your food, but you did stay true to your spirit, and that is even better karma. May you live long and prosper.
