Perhaps we should return the Kansas portion of the louisianna purchase to Mexico. While they may not do much for women's rights they may get rid of the Westboro Baptist Church. It is not much, but it is a start.

The Louisiana Purchased was made from France, not Mexico.

"I absolutely do not understand it..."

I understand it perfectly well. They found an excuse to legalize beating women so they took it. This is nothing but pure misogyny. Women just aren't worth enough to spend money to protect.

I hope that when someone is inevitably beaten beyond recognition or killed- and it WILL happen- that that government gets the sh1 t sued out of it. Unacceptable.

Guess you missed this part.

"The advocates are also outraged by the response from the capital city of Topeka, where the City Council and mayor repealed the city's domestic abuse law Tuesday night – a move designed to ensure the city wouldn't be stuck with the bill for prosecuting such cases."

Bettcha there's a few Topeka male legislators, judges, county commissioners, Kiwanis, Elks, Moose and Chamber of Commerce violators with those charges pending against them.

The budget is again just an excuse for the GOP to establish their authority, over women in case of abortion and over women again in case of sexual, verbal or physical abuse.

This act is itself criminal and every women in that town should protest. That is if they don't fear their husbands.

I am sure they do- but when one shows up with broken bones and brusies they assume its not false.
03:44 PM on 10/13/2011
...or one sided.

Wasn't it Farrah Fawcett that took a baseball bat to her boyfriend and ended up a poster child for domestic abuse? Or Rhianna? Or the Duke LaCrosse false accuser who went on to murder her next victim?

We are still have a long way teaching men that just because a woman draws first blood - you don't defend yourself.

I can't recall a case where a woman found lying about DV was prosecuted - or not given custody. Have you?

I've never heard of women

It's the world's best kept secret then.

If you know the "secret" I'd love to hear it.

Just sayin' it's so doesn't mean it's so. Crystal Mangum and the Duke LaCrosse accusation is typical. Prosecuting false rape accusers is rare, DV false accusers unheard of.

It's bad for business, and business is good.
09:45 AM on 10/15/2011
YOU aren't backing YOUR statement up with any truth or facts.

False accusations of DV aren't prosecuted. It's part and parcel of the "girls are good, boys are bad" paradigm of American society.

Be good little women. Make you spouses food, clean house, take care of kids, Be ready for sex, and work full time and he will have no reason to hit you..... (rolling eyes)

Really this will only lead him into thinking he can keep hitting you until someone dies. It is a shame the courts are not making these people accountable for their actions. I pray for the ones that were beat up and are now in real danger.

I was in this Christian world for years. I am a Christian, but let me tell you; the reason why they did it, because they want to (Look) Christian. They do not care if they act like it behind closed doors, but the Christian community there and a lot of other places, do not care as long as they (Look) Christian. You will not see death, nor bruise, all will appear fine, but the problem is; it won’t. Friends will hid the bruises with make-up. These women will suffer, and now they will have nowhere to turn for help. I will pray for them, because only God can help them; especially if they have children. I do believe God gave us a voice, so if you live there; go protest.
11:05 PM on 10/16/2011
All the best to you, clearleadership, hope you have you have been able to retain your faith - it sounds like you have. Can you imagine what Jesus would think of this?
12:29 PM on 10/17/2011
Mankind has choices in which God gives to us, so I knew early on in life it was not Him; although some say He allowed it; perhaps so, but I am a very strong lady because of all my hardships in life. My story is long, but in short of it; I forgave and I moved on. My choice was to forgive, let go, and move on.

Thanks for the reply, and one day Jesus will clean house. I am reminded of Psalm 37:28, “ For the Lord Loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, But the descendant of the wicked shall be cut off.” I pray for all those who are abused, and I also pray for their abusers, but most of all I pray the abused forgives in order to stop the cycle of abuse.

They say they aren't going to follow through; I hope some watchdog group keeps an eye on how many people they are "releasing for lack of evidence" in domestic cases.

It could have been, but I still think it's a good idea to keep track of how many domestic abuse cases never make it to court: there's more than one way to do this, announcing that they were going to stop prosecuting domestic abuse cases was the politically wrong way, but they can still do it other ways.

Keeping an open mind, one post at a time...
11:33 AM on 10/13/2011
"...and as of last Friday, 18 people jailed have been released without facing charges....[Officials] have refused to discuss details of the cases out of concern for victims' privacy." How considerate of them to respect their privacy out of concern for their mental well being...rather than physical.

Are they for real? What kind of precedent is this? The way this will end up is either:

a) things will escalate and the victim dies after some time, or
b) things will escalate and the victim retaliate and the abuser dies after some time.

So you're out of money, but relinquish your position of protection because you want to prosecute other crimes? If it costs you X amount per day to house these individuals, then send them the bill. That'll drop the average assault rate down very quickly.

I hope they are putting state officials on the case rather than leaving the victims high and dry, male, female, or child.

As a woman who suffered "domestic Violence" and went through the dreeeded court system I can tell you my first problem is the words "domestic Violence" it sounds too nice. This crime is assault and possibly most of the times attemptedf murder! why is it still that if you hit a girlfriend or wife its called "domestic Violence" but if someone were to attack someone other than their wofe o girlfriend it would be assault or attempted murder... beleive me I could write my own book on this subject. Back 15 years ago is when I went through my problems and I can assure you that letting these men off without any recourse is going to cause some deaths..but maybe we can come up with a pretty name for that? "Domestic Murder" or "She deserved it, but I love her Murder" Oh well another blow to woman in this country
05:23 PM on 10/13/2011
in California, it is considered assault
