The Republicans have given up all pretenses at wanting to help jobless Americans. It is nothing more than a stoke the rich and defeat Obama screed. Anyone with the slightest capacity for economic analysis can see how worthless their plan would be. Just look at what they did during the Bush administration...worthless tax cuts that did nothing for jobs, two off-budget ruinous wars, and deregulation that let Wall Street bankers go wild. They nearly destroyed our country for the sake of rapacious greed. Do we really trust that they have changed?

Reagan came into power viewing govt as a hindrance to expanding business and the economy. He said he would reduce taxes, deregulate, and privatizing govt services and let the businessmen do what they are held back doing. Let us not forget that Reagan also increased taxes on the middle classes while cutting taxes on the wealthiest.
The result? From 1955-1970 the top marginal tax rates were 83.3%. From 1981-2010 these taxes were reduced to 39.3%. Ergo, with this orthodoxy the economy should have grown majestically. Right?
Results? GDP average growth from 1955-1970 was 3.6%. After Reagan 1981-2010 GDP average went down to 2.8%.

Similarly with Reagan orthodoxy, the unemployment should have been reduced? Right?
From 1955-1970 average unemployment was 4.9%. After Reagan 1981-2010 average unemployment was 6.3%. And, income disparity grew to the greatest separation in the western industrialized world.
The result, was very little benefit to the nation with Reagan economics which many of the GOP want to return. The facts are hard to accept when up against ideology or rewriting of history.

The Republicans should have kept this "jobs plan" to themselves. This doesnt read like a serious jobs plan. A serious plan would have been scored by economists and wouldnt reintroduce ideas that have already been rejected.(Balanced budget amendment & repeal of the ACA) It is clear the Republicans spent all of 14 minutes on this plan. They introduced this plan just to say that they have one. Amateur hour at the GOP continues.

Additionally they are sick.Trying to repeal a law that insures kids and adults that need health insurance to repace it with what the country had for 60 years absolutely no protections for ordinary americans. These republicans are truly criminal rats.
10:04 PM on 10/13/2011
What happened to repeal and replace? I'm still waiting to see the replacement. I guess I can wait along with all the jobs they said they would create during the 2010 election. Not one jobs bill to put middle class back to work. A joke at best.

Let's see, tax cuts for the wealthiest and corporation, deregulation, and offshore drilling which will do nary nothing to lower energy prices. The same proposals that the GOP has been championing and implementing for the past several decades. Small wonder that America is having little luck in its economic recovery, the GOP continues to insist that the cause of the problems is the cure. Also, swimming in arctic waters will cure the common cold.

This courtesy of John McCain, who's wife would probably benefit from this.

Yes and what they also fail to mention is that not one of those wells would be drilled for over 10 years. Aside from the obvious environmental effects it will not increase jobs at all..your post is right on point.

Explain to me why the republicans think that the wealthy need more money. Please justify this effed up logic.
09:43 PM on 10/13/2011
They can never explain that only to the tea baggers who are stupid anyway.
09:21 PM on 10/13/2011
The republicans will not want any jobs to be created before election 2012 because they think that will defeat Obama.Well they are wrong because America knows their game plan of deregulation and tax breaks for the wealthy did not create one single job.Obama will win this one and it will be better for all americans.Tax the rich already.

Nothing new here. They have nothing and want nothing. They can't risk even the slightest improvement in the economy before the 2012 elections. They would sell their souls to the devil, and their constituents too, just to defeat Obama. That is a despicable position to take, but McConnell staked it out and they will ride it all the way to 2012.

Somebody might tell the Republicans that it is nice that they have ideas, but as long as President Obama's bills are DOA, it is not expedient to proceed with theirs. It is called politics, you give a little to get a little. They have yet to do so, so in truth, their job plan is about as good as mine is. It should get just about as far as the old 9-9-9.

I don't trust this. The last time I heard JOBS and GROWTH in 2 bill was 2001 and 2003 and look where they have gotten us? I also notice they don't have the word "AMERICAN" in there proposal.

Let me remind some of you of these 2 bills:

1. Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 signed – June 07, 2001
10 years, 3 months, 6 days to date

2. Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 signed – May 28, 2003
8 years, 4 months, 2 weeks, 1 day to date

The only JOBS created by this bill were overseas and here in the U.S.- outsourcing and insourcing. The only GROWTH it created was the "wealth" of the so called "job creators".

For these reasons alone the Democrats should not pass it in the Senate.

Then there's the issue of deregulation. The biggest reason for the economic slump we are in. When will we learn? Even today the Koch brothers gave us a reason why the Rep/TPer's are trying to dismantle the EPA. When your biggest donors is breaking the law and killing people at the same time is reason enough to ensure regulations don't disappear.

Don't believe me? Here is the video

Election 2012

"CONGRESSIONAL SHOCK AND AWE"

It is time for the awakening GIANT of Americans to say enough! Protest by OWS help with awareness, however we really only have the one power that counts and that is our VOTE.

Sleeping Americans allowed the elections of 2010 to put in an element of obstruction to keep Americans down and make the President look bad.

America you want change? You want progress? You want JOBS? Then make sure you VOTE and get everyone you know and don't know to do the same. Baby sit, drive, educate, and volunteer to help the candidates that cannot buy the election with huge contributions from corporations who own much of Congress now.

America only we can force the changes we need to survive with our VOTES. Vow to make the election of 2012 "CONGRESSIONAL SHOCK AND AWE"
Send the incumbents from both sides of the isle who have failed America packing!
If it is going to be it is up to each and every one of us.

So they will be having this evaluated and scored by the CBO and independent economist right? So they can tell us it will create 30,000 jobs over ten years. Vs Obamas bill 1.9 million jobs over a year?
