Common Sense Isn't!

I think PETA should travel to the Everglades and personally rescue all the poor abandoned pythons there. You know, the ones that eat large alligators and full-grown deer. PETA members can take them home and love them as kindred spirits.

Fanned/faved.

I'm with you 1000 percent in your cruelty-free stance.

And all your comments in this thread.

Melodramatic sanctimony espoused by you and those like you cause me to suffer. Is the human animal not worthy of compassion too?

It appears that you have been so fortunate as to have led a safe and sheltered life. There are others of us who understand that the world is not a perfect, safe and fair place. It never will be.

Striving to make positive changes in this imperfect world is a worthy and admirable past time. How one goes about effecting change can affect the outcome. Name calling and back biting of those who do not embrace your ideology in toto will not likely win people over.

Consider the methods embraced by Dr. M.L. King Jr. and the change he effected with those of PETA such as throwing paint at women in fur coats. Now ask which method has brought about greater change?

WHERE THE FUCK WAS PETA WHEN THE STATE SHOT THOSE ENDANGERED ANIMALS IN OHIO. DIDN'T HEAR YOU TALKING ABOUT ANIMAL CRUELTY THEN. OH IT DOESN'T INVOLVE AN ACTRESS' CAREER. OH SORRY. I THOUGHT YOU CARED ABOUT ALL ANIMALS NOT JUST GRABBING SOMEONE ELSE'S SUCCESS AS A ATTENTION-GETTING TOOL. SO YOU COULD HAVE SOMEONE JOIN YOUR TOFU PARADE

DebbyM, it is not they who make it hard for you to not be rude or whatever. Rather it is your inability or unwillingness to see/accept/understand a viewpoint/perspective besides your own that makes it difficult for you. When you gain the wisdom to see both sides of a situation and appreciate that neither is completely right nor completely wrong, you will be understand that your truth, while laudable, does not always hold as truth for another. You both are in the end correct and both mistaken.

It is incredible how many people jump at the chance to insult and belittle what PETA stands for. They advocate for fair and humane treatment of animals. They try to prevent torture and abuse of animals.

What is so wrong with these goals, and what is it about them that causes people to mock them so savagely?
04:38 PM on 11/02/2011
because they are like that overly loud preacher screaming at you that you're going to hell . . . that damnation is upon you . . . at least that is the vibe generally EVERYTIME I see PETA in the news.

Now hearing something like PETA building a habitat or buying land/rainforest preservation. That I could feel good inside about.

And that directly impacts your life such that you spit venom at the very mention of their name?

So they put their resources towards protecting defenseless animals...but that isn't good enough. I've read about them rescuing severely abused animals, and that makes me "feel good inside". Guess we just don't agree on this.

It is not so much PETA's agenda & goals but rather the polarizing vitriol they use to spread it. Seemingly, they are unable to differentiate among saving exploited circus animals, clubbing baby seals for fur, killing an animal that is a threat to humans or their pets/livestock, and companion animals. Such a binary position and abusive response to anyone who dares to disagree with them is bound to cause controversy and ill will toward them. PETA would be much better served and supported if they pursued their goals by finding ways to accomplish them in a positive manner as opposed to demonizing anyone who has the temerity to question them or disagree.

Every python saved from them nasty bag manufacturers will be sent gift wrapped to every PETA member.

I'd rather carry python as a bag than them slithering in my lawn and eating poodles. Too many pythons invading FL.
04:04 PM on 11/02/2011
I'm no activist, but the python problem in FL is caused by people who think it's cool to have a pet python, but then don't want to care for them when they get too big. They release them into the everglades, which is a great environment for them, and now you have a python problem. If people were a little smarter and had a little more respect for the animals there might not be a problem.

And you can bet that the people who are having them as pets and then releasing them to invade an ecosystem where they don't belong, aren't the sort of people who would support and belong to PETA. It's regular, run-of-the-mill American's who don't care about animals, the environment and have such a sense of entitlement that it's all about them and what they want to wear and eat and abuse.

Pythons are not immortal. Odds are pretty good that the snake would have died eventually. In addition they are a vicious invasive species disrupting the south Fla ecosystem. Yes its not the snakes fault, but the snakes really don't care. PETA is a self appointed "authority" trying to worm into politics. Self appointed political authorities are despotic.
04:42 PM on 11/02/2011
now if the world was overpopulated with pythons would you feel the same?

I have snakeskin boots, belt and portfolio. I quite like them. I also have crocodile skin shoes, sealskin belt, stingray wallet and vest. I also have fur jackets, leather everything. I did not hurt anything, just my pocketbook and credit cards. What is the fuss about? Oh I see, I need to be PC and admit that I like to see snakes and such critters live in their habitat. God said that I will have dominion over them critters and I am following His words verbatim. I also like chicken nuggets, pork chops, hamburgers, turkey patties, lamb kebobs among other critters. i sleep on goose down pillows and wear my shearling slippers. I love my cat who sleeps with me and she loves eating daddy longlegs that abound in my basement. This is my simple way of culling these critters. If people don't cull them and thin out their population either by eating them or using parts of their body for our personal use, they will outnumber us in no time and will eat us. And I certainly do not like that scenario whatsoever. I am all for humane treatment of anything but come on PETA groupies, last time I checked, I pay for all that I eat and use and the law says I do all these legally. Butt out of my life and I will leave you to eating potato patties and wearing uncomfortable cotton and polyester clothing.

To follow your logic, I won't verbally torture you as I am being kind to animals like you. You make personal choices like eating cardboard and canned potatoes. I make my choice by eating well seasoned meats, wear soften leather and make sure that when I back up my beautifully leather upholstered car, there are no critters that get accidentally squished under the tires. No I do not hurt anyone on purpose as I do not eat live critters. So, I am kind to animals that provide me nourishment in lip smacking fashion.

Is PETA going to come out and condemn the snake for ambushing the deer?

"ethical treatment of animals" sounds like such a noble cause. PETA's reality is somewhat less than noble. Ingrid Newkirk and her partner have made a fortune playing on animal lover's sympathies and using much of the proceeds for hypocritical practices that are well documented.

Having a family pet dog is not enslaving the dog. While some industrial animal husbandry practices are awful, yes Col. Sanders, I'm talking about you and your suppliers, many more farmers do love and even revere the animals that they raise for food. Because a few radicals who are drawn to PEAT do not understand this does not make it any less true. By their vandalism and personal attacks PEAT and their ilk are damaging the cause they purport to espouse. Proponents of ruthless animal exploitation use the antics of PETA as a basis of mockery of the rest of us, many of us omnivores, who believe in real ethical treatment of animals.

It's more likely PETA will condemn the National Park Service for not providing protection for the deer, not providing sufficient food for the python, and habitat overcrowding which forced the deer and the snake to come into lethal proximity. Isn't it always the fault of H. sapiens when something bad happens to animals according to PETA?

How would some of you feel if that Python slithered up on you unexpectedly and attacked you and someone killed it? Would you then think it was animal cruelty considering they saved your life with any means necessary? PETA is like that annoying sibling who sneaks around trying to get dirt on you then tattle-tailing to your parents...just plain annoying and obnoxious. They seem to have the Big Brother/Big Sister syndrome...I don't care one bit about what someone's beliefs are, no one has a right to tell people how they should spend their money and on what. If you don't like to wear certain things, then don't wear them...it's as simple as that. But trying to bully and harass people into doing what you want them to do is completely over-stepping the line. Reese Witherspoon has the right to purchase and wear whatever she wants. She's an adult...she makes her own money and does not have to ask PETA's permission to do a damn thing. If I were Reese, I'd send PETA a nice little note...Kiss My A*#...period... exclamation point.

i am no fan of snakes, I am no fan of PETA, and I am no fan of animal rights activists, but when you watch some of these videos where they kill these animals - dozens of them - just for one item of clothing or accessory, it's very sad.
