My best advise: Cut to the chase and show up wearing sweats.

My next-best advise...well, that's all I've got.

Family's family...the good, the bad, the dysfunctional, the ideocyncratic. Look on the bright side, at least they'll make for good article-fodder. :)

If you're a guy, you might just be the right person for the author. Are you available? LOL!

I am a guy, but I'm already seeing a girl, who has, shall I say, a sweats-friendly way of looking at life. ;)

Reading this article makes me feel warm and fuzzy.... It resonates with me because it is also my story ( situation ).

Happy Holiday to Rachel Weight and her family and friends....

And Good Luck....

It's a nice change to read an optimistic point of view on being a single woman during the holiday season. Kudos to looking on the bright side.

Listen, relatives and friends can be annoying to just about anyone during the holiday season. If you're single then it's when are you getting married. If you're married then when are you having kids. The solution to both scenarios is to make your position clear before the gatherings that there will be none of that nonsense. If they don't like it then guess what...you are not constitutionally or legally bound to attend these affairs. There have been many holiday seasons, when I was single and after being married, that I went on vacation and didn't think about it twice. People really need to understand that we are free to live our lives the way we choose and being single is not the worse thing that can happen to a person. Just like marriage is not the end all...be all that some want you to think.

What chip? Just because my husband and I don't pull punches and live in reality. Please...give it a rest.

Syd and it isn't what everyone should experience. I could truly be married by now if I really wanted to be. There were so many opportunities, it just never appealed to me. I love being by myself and doing my own thing.

Exactly and that shouldn't be questioned or a topic of discussion. As long as you're happy then people should mind their own business.

Single guys have the same problem. You have to talk with your relatives before the holidays. It's not easy but it works.

Most mature men realize what takes place in a household during the holiday season. Moreover, most mature men would be delighted to pay games with your mother or older family members. Time to dump the boys and graduate up to men.

Because you like to play games with your mother-in-law does not mean you're mature.

Because you don't like to play games with your mother-in-law does not mean you're immature.

Different people like different things.

Most of us can be polite and respectful and patience enough to spend an afternoon with a mother in law or sister in law. Old folks get lonely and enjoy the attention. Simple acts of kindness usually don't kill us and after it's all over, we usually feel pretty good about. If nothing else, it shows some respect for you wife or (girl friend).

Mature people know that it's not always about what they "like" to do.

Sometimes its about doing something you don't "like" because it makes other people happy.

For years feminists have kept praising the single life*, because apparently to them, a woman wanting to be with a man is succumbing to a form of "patriarchal oppression," and shows the woman's lack of independence. This only shows the rational person how far from reality the feminists have really gone. They try to ignore a woman's biology, as well as her psychology, to pursue their quixotic view of egalitarianism.

*Perhaps because a majority of them end up [involuntarily] single themselves. But of course they'll try to twist it around and somehow try to claim that it's "empowering"....

Believe it or not, some women really have no desire to get married or have kids. Or they don't desire it enough to give up their careers. Marriage and kids are not the number one goal in life for all women.

Let's just be thankful that we don't judge others and generalize in order to justify our choices in life. It's taking every effort of self control to respond to you instead of Judgy McJudgerson above.
