We had a Glutener at our holiday table and it was like a saturday night live skit. We were all regaled with details of her (self) diagnoses, symptoms, etc.. Every dish that passed was met with an hysterical "Is there gluten in this?!" For cripes sake, if you have a big issue like this, bring yer own food or stay home. And don't expect me not to make fun of you either!

A bowl of cornmeal mush would be what person gets. It only has 2 ingredients: water and corn. If you are upset that it isn't some delicious cuisine, don't blame the cook, blame the restrictions you put on them.

It is easy to judge and laugh at others when you’ve never had the symptoms. The same can be said for anyone who has any issues with food…acid reflux, diabetes, allergies, etc…they can’t eat certain things. Obviously I wouldn’t make fun of anyone for their choice to eat what they want (it doesn’t affect me in any way), I am not ignorant or insensitive. Specially during the holidays, I wouldn’t want to bully anyone and show what a jackass I am. But if you choose to be childish and obnoxious because someone is different, that is your right…though lacking holiday spirit.

my worst dinner guest ever would be someone as judgmental as the person who made this graph. people with food allergies are not picky. they actually get ill from eating these foods. do you consider people with shellfish allergies to be annoying if they tell you they can't eat shrimp? this graph only shows how much of a reality (and a sad one at that) that food allergies are.

What about those people who fit into these categories for HEALTH REASONS? Many of us would LOVE to eat all those delicious things that the rest of you take for granted... oh, except for the fact that it would incapacitate us (or even kill?)? Way to be sensitive during the holiday season....

You might want to see a doctor immediately, as your humor seems to be set on "none".

The chart has ONE guest who's diet is a personal choice. People with food allergies have a little problem. What others enjoy is poison to them. Not much fun making sure that you are not accidentally poisoned at a party. Have food allergy sufferers jokes replaced retard jokes. (Hope, you are not offended by the term retard.....just joking of course.)

I feed my obnoxiously picky family first at home then we arrive at the host under strict instructions to sit at the table politely making conversation and behaving graciously until dinner is finished. If they find something they want to eat they do, if not, they are at least not whining that they are hungry and there is nothing to eat. That way, our eating needs and preferences are not the problem of the gracious host who invited us to share our company, not our dietary issues.

Lighten up, people.

This. I have a couple food alergies- when we go somewhere like a wedding where I'm not 100% I'll "be able to eat" the food there, we stop and get me something (not too big) to eat on the way. If there is food I can eat, I eat more, since I only ate a little something on the way. If there is nothing for me to eat, I at least had something to tide me over till the end. No big deal, nobody gets hurt, etc.

I'm not vegan, but otherwise, THAT'S ME... I haven't eaten beef or pork for 41 yrs. (Was vegetarian for the first 5 of those). I've learned that I'm gluten intolerant and sensitive to eggs, dairy, sugar, chocolate (whine), mushrooms, bell peppers and alcohol. It took me a long time to accept this, but once I did, I do pretty well.
When I'm invited to someone's house, I just bring stuff I can eat. It's just awful to sit down with others when the hostess has tried to prepare a meal for everyone that is based on what I can eat.

Travel is...daunting. I won't go to England ever again. Nearly starved. I won't go to Italy again either. It was better than England, but still very limited once pasta is eliminated. I always take food that is already cooked and frozen. I have to find a source of ice at my destination, but this seems to be the only way to travel. It's very necessary for breakfast, as other than some juice or fresh fruit, there is NOTHING served that I can eat.

A long running family joke was we had a vegen cousin and she would make her dish right before we eat. Myself and other cousins would always give her a cooking dish that we had used for like the gibblets. Laughed all through dinner.

The thumbnail and title of this article are pretty insulting to vegans. I mean, I clicked through and I get it, but can't we leave aside this picking at other people? That doesn't seem very nice, to make folks making ethical decisions and folks who have legitimate food allergies feel bad about accepting dinner invitations on Thanksgiving.

Gee, Brain. What are we going to do tonight?
01:50 AM on 11/26/2011
mmm....well this is not quite right. if you are vegan then you will not eat eggs or have diary products and then you would have to make things worse by being gluten and nut allergic. therefore the worst guest does not have to be the intersection of all circles.

essentially intersection(nuts, gluten and vegan) is what you want. adding eggs and lactose is redundant.
01:44 AM on 11/26/2011
Damn those guests with food allergies, always developing hives on their faces and rolling on the ground while vomiting all over the floor. Why can't they eat like the rest of us normal folks?

They missed kosher/halal and shellfish allergy. I had a friend who came close to all of those categories - she had to have hormone-free food, so that excluded all animal products bought at a decent price at the grocery. She was also allergic to chocolate. By the way, going to such a person's house as a guest isn't a picnic, either. My oldest once asked if we could bring our own birthday cake to her daughter's party. Egg-free, flour-free, carob cake: yummy!

I've been dealing with multiple food sensitivities for decades. I ALWAYS provide normal eaters with normal food. I never make those egg free, flour free things and carob is NOTHING like chocolate. Of all my sensitivities, chocolate was the hardest to accept. I was such a chocoholic... If there was chocolate in my house, I was always aware of it, that is until I gave in and ate all of it till it was gone. I will, only occasionally, have a small portion of any of the others. With chocolate, I had to make a lifelong decision to NEVER eat chocolate again.
My new husband has a small piece of chocolate after dinner every night. Now that I'm clear that I never eat chocolate no matter what, it doesn't bother me at all. With this stuff, it had to all or nothing.

Not sure what your issue is with chocolate but for many it can be resolved by using raw cacao and sweeten it yourself. That's what I had to do. Now no more itchy skin for me.

COMEDY SECTION ladies and gentleman. Some of you obviously have NO sense of humor and will become offended at anything. Grow up and take the joke. It will go around and eventually I will hear a joke that will poke at my interests and/or beliefs and I will appreciate it for what it is, even if i dont laugh.

in a PC world there is no room for humor. Others are laughing at anothers expense, which is not very PC.
