might have been nice if the survivors of the dead Seal Team 6 members were treated to something by this restaraunt owner.

Shameful for anyone to "celebrate" a death. It does not matter who it is, even Bin Laden. It shows a complete lack of taste and dignity.

It was a gift from a friend, guys, ease up.
And probably more of a publicity stunt for the restaurant than anything else. He didnt sell the wine for $10,000. They placed the value on it.

Knowing how the government operates they probably gave him a bottle of two buck chuck and the contractor simply marked it up like they did with toilet seats and hammers.

China imports a lot of two buck chuck and slaps Petrus labels on it.  Most people can't tell the difference.

I don't really understand why some people rejoice in the death of any human. Wars exist and people are killed. There are winners and losers in life but to celebrate a death with a $10,000 bottle of wine is tacky but especially by a senior government official. Panetta is not better than Bush's "Mission Accomplished" tacky brag. .

Its been done for years!! The markings on planes for kills.. The markings on helmets for kills.. Just the way of the warriors.. The Bush markings of the Cards in Iraq for officials.. Bounties on their heads..

It is still tacky and irresponsible for a senior public official who is NOT a warrior to be a braggard

The wine came from a friend and was shared by several people. I don't see any problem but I just don't believe any single bottle of wine is worth $10000.00. And as the poster below said, the soldiers who actually took out Bin Laden probably would have preferred an ice-cold beer and I sure hope they got it.

There is never any cause for celebration when one kills another, even if there is no choice in the matter. The "bet" should never have been made by the restauranteur nor accepted by Mr. Panietta. Both showed extremely bad judgment and poor taste in this matter.

Actually most were "relieved" that a threat had been removed, as we all were. That is a far cry from being happy or "glad" about it.
