I'm a white, liberal, Christian Democrat and I am a born Southerner. I don't have a racist bone in my body and never have. I don't have any problems with someone who has come to this country from anywhere, legally. You have to understand what has been going on here in the South for about 25 years. Companies started moving down here because the local governments promised them workers who would work for less money (and no unions!). And, North Georgia is the Carpet Capitol of the world. Plus, it would be too costly to move the whole plant to Mexico or China and ship carpet rolls, so the carpet companies started importing workers from Mexico. Generations of native Southerners have worked in carpet and textile mills for decent money and benefits. But that all changed when they brought in illegal workers. Sometimes, all the employees would be fired and everyone would be hired back in @ $5/hour and no benefits. Everyone who would work for that, which was all the illegal immigrants they literally shipped into North Georgia. Compainies knew they issued them all the same Social Security numbers. At first it was just the men, and they would work a few years, save up some money and then go back home and buy a farm or something.

The problem is that MOST of the pro-illegal-labor crowd care nothing for your suffering or the hardships faced by your families.

They are closed-minded ideologues who cannot even allow themselves to consider the destructive influence that illegal immigration has had on various skilled and unskilled trades or the natural-born citizens or green-card holders (LEGAL immigrants) formerly employed in those trades at liveable wages and benefits.

They think they're being compassionate, when they're really just crapping on their fellow American workers and their families.

Capitalists hire illegals because they are being compassionate? Your post makes no sense.

Why should the government be protecting you against better workers?
If you can't compete with other workers, lower your salary or find another occupation.

Not very nice or very smart people in ole Alabam. Who will pick the crops dummies. Maybe they can get the book Crop Picking For Southern Dummies.

Question Authority!
08:35 AM on 12/06/2011
And you would be very close to correct. The Aristocratic elites in the deep south keep people in as much ignorance, and misinformation as possible.

"The goal of the Deep Southern oligarchy has been consistent for four centuries: to control and maintain a one-party state with a colonial-style economy based on large-scale agriculture and the extraction of primary resources by a compliant, low-wage workforce with as few labor, workplace safety, health care, and environmental regulations as possible. "
http://www.alternet.org/story/153255/a_look_at_america%27s_geography_shows_that_the_tea_party_is_doomed?page=7

The real question , why have the people not revolted against their Aristocratic masters for all these centuries? Ignorance is bliss for some.

Apparently many of them buy into the neat little fiction that their skin color makes them inherently superior as human beings, and therefore part of the oligarchy.

Otherwise, it's a puzzler, for sure.

Whenever the issue of illegal immigration comes up, I'm amazed at the paucity of logic, reason, compassion or intellectual honesty on the part of the pro-illegal crowd.

They'll call you racist, attack your basic humanity, call you stupid, call you mean, accuse you of hating children, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum.

However, not ONE person will ever answer honest questions, questions like:

-- Where do YOU draw the line? How many illegals crossing the borders and squatting here is "enough"? 25 million? 50 million? 100 million?

-- You freely accuse others of racism against Hispanics. How about you? If the 10 to 12 million illegals were 80% African, would you still be in favor of rewarding them with citizenship? How about if they were 80% Chinese? What then? Does your lax attitude extend to ALL illegal aliens? Be 100% honest. Swear it on your grandmother's grave.

-- How is destroying entire industries -- and throwing millions of American workers out of their jobs -- for example in the construction trades -- compassionate? What is compassionate about ensuring that during the worst recession since the great depression, journeymen roofers, carpenters, landscapers and tilers will have to compete with tens of thousands of illegals who will undercut their wage and steal the food out of their children's mouths?

This is America. A place that welcomes immigration. People like you give this country a bad reputation. Your people came from somewhere else, but you don't want others to share in the freedom this country offers. If the choice came to throwing people out, I would have you and everyone else with your narrow minded views at the front of the line.

In the final years of the dismantling of constitutional, democratic government, there are always those few anomalous leaders who hanker for an earlier leadership and the rule of law. Luther Strange, is aptly named for daring to uphold a strand of decency and law of civilized governance. His decision is in the most noble traditions of American leadership. His actions must be held up as another profile in courage that are of great leaders in John F. Kennedy's book. His example must be the American example of all leaders of our nation in reuniting in common cause against the call of the wild in human nature and self-destruction.

Then you may need to become acquainted with this little thing called the Constitution of the United States, in which it states:

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, PAPERS, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, SHALL NOT BE VIOLATED and NO WARRANTS SHALL ISSUE, BUT UPON PROBABLE CAUSE, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly DESCRIBING the place to be searched, and THE PERSONS OR THINGS TO BE SEIZED."

Driving - or signing up for water services - while appearing Mexican or talking funny are not examples of "probable cause," except to the worst kind of racists.

Same thing happened in Georgia when they enacted the same laws......over a billion dollars of crops rotted in the fields.....white men don't want that work, they want to take their aggression out on someone they perceive is doing harm to them.

So Alabama's new anti-illegal immigrant law includes a provision to deny people water? I see ... they can't stop them from coming across the border but they can dehydrate them to death ... nice ... at least the Deep South has become more sophisticated since the days when they just lynched people they didn't like ...

I was a construction worker for ten years for a local rain gutter company. In those years we went through hundreds of twenty something American children, 18-50. Yes even some of the "adults" we employed were no better than the coddled 18 year old brats. There were definitely standouts in the group but the over whelming majority could never take care of themselves with out adult supervision. We never hired illegal aliens but did hire a few who legally became American citizens from Mexico and they were the hardest working men I ever knew. You never had to ask twice, you could always expect results from them and you could rely on the fact that they would show up the next day. Have you ever seen a white person picking vegetables in a field? No you haven't, its because of the sense of entitlement that the last two generations have been given by their parents. It is extremely sad that this nation has become what it is.

You have nailed it perfectly. I spent nearly 36 years on foreign projects, sometimes with as much as 4 years on the site 7 days a week. After about 2 projects I implimented a "no American workers on my job" policy. My projects always came in on time, on budget while other jobs with a lot of American techs and supervisors had quality problems, extra expenses to cater for their "I want this to be just like back home" attitudes, my way is the only way to do the job attitudes, I'll just sit here until somebody brings me the tools to do this job attitude, and general low productivity.

My ideal mix Hire English or German Engineering staff, English or South African technical supervision, Turkish trades and labor. Worked well for me and I still keep in contact with American professional expats who still follow that system.

That's the truth! American workers under a certain age are just plain L-A-Z-Y! That's what you get when in so many states there is a work age limitation. It's just the recipe that has created the attitude among Americans over the past 30-35 years. So many feel they are too good to do various jobs available. They think they need to be paid the same amount of money an experienced worker with years of training is paid. No wonder there are those from other countries over here out in the fields & various other places doing jobs that years ago Americans were willing to do.

The argument many in the USA use against those over here improperly & claim they are taking jobs away from Americans is bogus. Many Americans are just plain lazy & feel they are too good to do those very jobs.

There are some VERY hard working folks in this country who are happy to be here & getting the wages they are getting all the while American citizens feel they are too good to do those jobs at those wages. Loads of Americans could learn about work ethics from some of these hard working people.

UNTIL many Americans get off their high horse & start becoming hard working people again that one used to find decades ago, foreigners will continue to come here doing the jobs so many Americans feel they are too good to do!
