It's easy to say, "Let the legislators hash it out", but the logistics of making plural marraiges legal and practical are staggering. A plural marriage could involve any permutation of any number of people, as I pointed out in my "silly" posts last night. Lawyers and legislators would be spending time and money that could be spent on more pressing issues. People can already be in polyamorous relationships if they want to be. I don't really see why it's so important to put the legal stamp on them; it would end up being a total cluster-f***, (both literally and figuratively!)

I say, put it up as a referendum. If the people think it's important enough to pursue, then let's pursue it. If not, then let the status quo continue. My personal opinion is that Kody Brown is just wanting more attention.

You're right. Unfortunately, the time and money that could be spent on more pressing issues is not. That bums me out.

You want adults' rights to profess their love to each to a referendum? Isn't it bad enough that we discriminate against homosexuals this way?

I say that the amount of time and money and trouble spent on defining what plural marriage is; limits, if any, and legislating for plural marriage, plus the complications that would ensue in legalization (divorces, child custody issues, insurance, tax and estate issues) would be more trouble than a lot of people realize. How much time and trouble do we want to spend on this, when we have huge economic facing our country. If citizens think it is important enough to go through a huge change such as this, then we should put it out there.

If you are living in a home and having relations with 500 people, well then that is your business. But I can’t support being married to more than one person. Forget the romantic notion of marriage being a special bond between two people, but how much protection legally do the wives/husbands have when other parties enter into the equation. If wife 1 divorces the husband and takes him to the cleaners, is she infringing on the property rights of the other wives? If something happens to the husband, who makes the medical decisions, the legal decisions, the money decisions. Who inherits, etc.? But more than that, as a woman, that picture of all those woman hanging on that guy makes me want to hurl…. Especially for the poor saps on the outside. Where’s the self-respect? Now, I know you can say it’s freedom of religion and let people alone point of view, but there has to be a point where you have to obey the law no matter what your religion says.

I’m seeing this issue being equated to gay marriage, but it’s not. Marriage is supposed to offer each partner protection under the law. It is simply putting that one special person above all others.

Those are all issues to be worked out by legislators, lawyers and judges. You don't deny people rights simply because they raise questions. Another couple's marriage license doesn't harm you in any way.

If you're having relations with 500 people, that "is" your business for sure and you're probably making a helluva money doing it, too :).

I think it is wonderful that you chose to open your thoughts and realize that just because you wouldn't doesn't make it wrong for them. There are many things I wouldn't do in my life but would still fight for others to have the right to. I think they are trying to educate others by going public. That doesn't mean that others should try to hurt them. They are asking others to respect their choices as being theirs.

The possiblities are endless! Yes...we should totally do ths!!! We'd be so busy trying to figure out who was married to whom and who owed back child support we'd forget to declare war on the country whose dictator we DON'T like. Save us some money on defense

If you have eight people in a group marriage, if you added together all the permutations of who was married to whom all eight people in turn being married to all eight people...Eight to the eigth power, for example, there could potentially be many unions you could claim to be a part of.

Right. Now, double or triple that or however many do or do not want to be jointly filing with others within the union. It could get really complicated, couldn't it?

Suppose I married a guy who insisted that he had multiple personalities and I wanted to marry all of them? Would that count as a plural marriage? What if we decided that we wanted to file our taxes as under "married, filing separately?" Seven different tax returns?

My point exactly. How would we limit this, and who would decide what the limits are? If we use the argument that as many adults as wish to marry should be able to do so, one can easily see where this might lead. Moral issues aside, it

What if one of the partners in a plural marriage wants a divorce from one of the sister wives but the other sister wives want her to stay in the marriage? If they are all equal partners in the marriage, then who gets to make the definitive decision?
