Yea for godaddy.

None of this changes the fact that their ad campaign is stupid, but it's nice to see them make a stand.

This was sarcasm, for the record.

You may say I'm a dreamer. I'm not the only one.

I can see why.

And not only are the ads very racy, but they feature the ugliest women on the planet. I can't understand why anyone would want to see "what happens next" with that being the case.

*shrug* Each to his own, I suppose.

Well, you have now gotten me to transfer my sites and business to Go daddy.

1 &1 today e mailed me to let me know that they are opposing SOPA.

As an author and publisher I am sick of piracy. I will take my business to those, like Go Daddy, who support following the law and respecting copyrights.

Go Daddy has my support; 1&1 lost it.

BTW, I tried to contact 1&1 to let them know my reaction to their letter; my letter bounced back as undeliverable.

Way to go.

Not.

The boycott works both ways.

Yet here you are showing your cluelessness of SOPA.
07:38 PM on 12/29/2011
The prevalence of internet piracy is completely overblown.
Does it occur? Yes? But more people are not doing it than are doing it.

I am sick of this being a curtain to hide behind by those who want to take our freedoms and slowly squeeze them like a lemon.

google youtube and facebook should shutdown their websites for 24 hours to show people what it will be like if sopa passes.
07:47 PM on 12/29/2011
that is genius, people would flip the f out haha
08:07 PM on 12/29/2011
That could potentially backfire...

Highly unlikely though.

Don't back down. They're scared but you must be merciless. They will take any mercy for weakness. I am glad this is on its way to personally ruining their lives. Go, Daddy. Go away and don't come back.

There is nothing wrong with the internet. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! If companies and others are concerned about copyrights being violated, then those companies and others can pay what it costs to protect their rights and not infringe upon the overwhelming majority of us that do not copyright infringe by increasing our costs of internet usage or in anyway limiting it.
07:05 PM on 12/29/2011
Very true, the SOPA is the opening free societies have been trying, since the inception of the internet, inorder to take control of it and it's freedom. Not a conspiracy theory but a fact!!

What an interesting comparison. SOPA is to privacy issues as Fox is to truth, a cancer. Unfortunately, the people who use the website registration, hosting, and security certificate services that GoDaddy provides are actually informed, and GoDaddy can't just sell their services to uninformed bigots like Fox can. That is why you see the quick reversal on GoDaddy's part.

Question to everyone... if you support Net Neutrality and are against SOPA, and when there are free operating systems like Linux/BSD out there, why do you run Microsoft Windows and/or Apple Mac OS X? (OS X is even more restrictive OS than Microsoft Windows is)

Freedom begins at home.

Actually, it isn't. Companies like Microsoft and Apple are members of the BSA, which have pushed for legislation like this. When your money becomes their money, they get to spend it on garbage bills like SOPA. If you install Ubuntu as your OS, however, this isn't the case, as it costs you nothing and is perfectly legal.

Of course "they" want to take over the internet. If they had their way, the only news sources would be Fox and the Big Three.

this is a righteous reason to boycott GODADDY. not because they are opposed to people stealing music & movies.
06:13 PM on 12/29/2011
Go Daddy is a horrible company. I have used them to purchase domain names and dealing with hidden fees and rude customer service. This is no surprise. Greed and stupidity seem to go hand in hand.
07:09 PM on 12/29/2011
Really, I've been buying domains from them since 2007 and have hosting sites too and they are great at answering my calls even at 3:00am when I can't sleep. They stay on the phone with me to guide me for as long as it takes, always courteous, helpful and they speak real English and most seem to live in the USA. I've never seen any "hidden" fees, but they do break down their fees in itemized ways so you can say yeah or neah to them, i.e. it is ala carte pricing. Their prices were always lower than the rest, so were is the greed you speak of?

You do own a domain you buy for the period of time you've paid for.
