Thank you Mr. Buffet for your insightfulness and willingness to do your part in helping to save our America - however, it's not fair that you pay more taxes and the other thousand multi-millionaires not have to pay their fair share too. All multi-money-makers should have to pay higher taxes - their secretaries paying more of a percentage of taxes than those steeped in moola is ridiculous. Why the GOPhers  Read More...

If he had such a sense of decency, he could just send in a check. In fact, that option has been available for more than 50 years. The feds even have a special PO Box set up for it. Guess what, Buffet nor none of his hypocrite friends ever use it. Wonder why, being they enjoy acting so egalitarian.

By the way, if Buffet was so concerned with paying his "fair share" of taxes why would he make his donation to the Gates Foundation contingent on them maintaining a charitable status so that he can continue to use it as a tax avoidance scheme?

The youth are drafted and put their lives on the line for their country. The wealthy congress can do their part by suppoting them with a personal donation that will DOUBLE by the generous offer from Buffett. Of course triple whatever Mitch puts up. True patriots - all who make a donation to our great country.

McConnell was heard telling his staffer that he intends to make Buffett a one term billionaire.

Buffet is not perfect, but he is a great example of one of the few American rich people who are actually genuinely good at being rich. He earned his way there, and he understands and embraces his responsibilities to his country. How many others in the 1% can say the same?

Bill and Melinda Gates.

Chrissy Walton, worth 21 Billion had a museum build in Bentonville AR, to display all of the fine art from her personal collection and will not charge admission. How sweet of her. Is she a republican?
01:43 PM on 01/12/2012
A true leader goes in first and shows the way...Buffet is nothing more than spouting off for publicity...If he was truly interested in paying more in taxes he would have first sent in a check without any gimmicks and second not ties the majority of his assets up in Trust Funds that lower his tax obligation...And only really uneducated people would believe that he pays less than his assistant...it is simple math, if both pay at an equal rate of 20% (for example) and the assistant earns $50,000 and Buffet earns $1MM, one would pay $10,000 and the other would pay $200,000...silly Buffet, with stunts like this, investors should question his mental capacity.

He'll donate a Billion for each Billion they donate.

thats the point..They dont make equal amounts and they dont pay the same rates. Warren's point is that in spite of or because of how much he makes he gets tax breaks that wage earners dont recieve, a lot of his earnings are interest income or capital gains at 15%, far less ratewise than someone earning 40-60 k per year would pay

All the members of congress combined could not surpass the wealth of Daddy Warbucks. Warren was the one complaining he didn't pay enough, the GOP said he could send in as much as he wants, and now he cops out by requesting matched funds? Pay all you want, Warren. Alone.

01:34 PM on 01/12/2012
Warren was instructed to send in all his cash, if that would soothe his guilt. Instead, he's attempting to save face by dictating some other terms. Someone has become the topic of ridicule in this episode, yet it isn't Mitch.

Buffet has a conscious and set of moral values. The GOP however is a sociopathic organization, it has none. It's refreshing that more people are waking up to this fact. They've consistently shown that all they care about is making sure the wealthy don't have to make any sacrifice, not one penny more. The GOP will go the way of the Whig party before to long, the dust bin of history.

I don't care about what Warren Buffett believes. Steve Jobs did not believe in redistribution of wealth.. so what. Obama's definition of rich is not somebody who has $45 billion but a family making $250,000 a year.

Job's very much believed in redistributing wealth, from your pocket to his. This is largely done by funding politicians who passed loophole laws etc. for the rich.

Buffet is a real piece of work. Hey Warren ... YOU'RE the one that keeps whining that you and your billionaire buddies aren't paying enough. MAN UP! Back up your words. Why should you predicate YOUR actions on the actions of someone else?

The thing people who are opposed to any tax hikes on the rich don't realize is that there is a finite amount of money in the world. When all the wealth is concentrated at the top 1% of the people, that is money that is sitting unused and not spuring demand. The rich don't create demand, the poor and middle class do. The rich simply make the items the poor and middle class demand. If the poor and middle class don't have money, they won't demand what the rich are able to create. A rich person can make a 100 new things the rest of us want, but if the poor and middle class never have the money to buy them, then the rich can't get richer and produce more things. Yes the rich create the items we all buy, but if we don't have the money to buy what they make, what they make are just paper weights not doing anything for the economy. The poor and middle class drive the economy, the rich simply supply it.

Political pulse

"don't realize is that there is a finite amount of money in the world. " Well since your basic premise is absolutely FALSE, what does that do for the rest of your argument?

I will point out one more falsity. The producers do not respond to demand. Demand does not create, it only maintains that which exists. Producers produce new things because they perceive a potential demand. They then buy products and hire people. Those who gained from the production now have money to buy other things, thus increasing overall demand.

Goods chase goods = Say's Law

Because of the failure to recognize this single principle, we have created decades of erroneous economic policies. Not for the sake of economics, but for the sake of gaining control over people.

The disproof of your position is contained in your own argument. If the rich can't benefit without a middle class, then the rich will make sure there is a middle class.

At any one moment there is a finite amount of money in the world.Whether it be 1 million dollars or 100 trillion dollars, there is always a finite amount of usable money in the world. Wealth is not real but a percieved atribute. Humans created currency to trade items with each other. When the currency is off balance like it is today between the rich and the poor, you have a slow down in consumption, demand, and technological advancement.
