Not a problem.

You should be teaching your kids about sex.

Sex is far better for humans than violence and war.

That's right, encourage the public to waste their money in nonproductive activities so you can tax it. Why don't they legalize and tax prostitution or drugs. Not much difference.
12:02 PM on 01/16/2012
Regulating and taxing prostitution and drugs would raise revenue without diverting resources. These activities occur already and making them legal would also cut down on the otherwise wasted resources used in apprehending, prosecuting and incarcerating people.
12:32 PM on 01/16/2012
Dude you must have either some really good drugs or really bad prostitutes if you think there's not much difference lol

Why doesn't the government go into iPad production ?

Why doesn't the government get into the "Search engine" business ?
Those are profitable ventures with a history of making money.

it was the Elected Officals from the cities who came begging to Congress for help when Americans moved to the Burbs by the millions to get away from high taxes.
Instead of lowering the taxes in the cities they ask for loans to to help poor people buy houses opening the doors for the Sub Prime Loans. Where Fannie has strict rules on Income and Credit for those poor buyer they never sold any homes over $50,000 on that program.
Country Wide and others exploitied a good program meant to keep homeowners in poor communities so they would not become crime ridden.

Because of the "free enterprise" myth, the US has no central planning. What we have is the delusions of the crowd (herd) where individual groups (CEOs, politicians, etc.) make decisions in a vacuum that make sense in the short term for that organization.

The problem is the sum total of all their "rational" decisions in a macro sense are extremely irrational and destructive.

Because the US culture over-values the "individual actions," the US suffers terribly in the long term.

Remember that 75%+ of all "religious" people are complete hypocrites!

In fact close to zero "Christians" actually do as Christ taught!

If "Christians" actually did even a quarter of what Christ taught, there would be no Republican party.

Lower their pay and pay them market wages like everyone else gets.
There are 200 applicants for every cop or fireman position.

Really? WILLLLL find the revenue? I am not sure what planet (or state) you live in, but cutting revenue means less for ordinary people. There's lots and lots of proof out there. Reducing revenue is false, old and tired---not to mention, it only causes more misery--something the right doesn't care about.

Come into my den of chance and bring your paychecks.

The house 'edge' in roulette is 5.6%. Soooo little children, someone betting their after-tax income on this game is paying an additional 5.6% on their income to the forces that makes the rich richer and the pols fatter.

A slot machine's 'edge' is 6% to 8%.

The bottom 50% can't afford this. Guess where they put the casinos? It's not Beverly Hills.

So what?
Even if its 70%.
Gambling corrupts, is addictive and destructive to everyone when it takes money and distributes it to an often corrupt criminal and politically influencial few.
Every dollar that spent in a casino Rich or Poor would have been better spent in a goods and services ecconomy.

This is just typical of how local and state politicians think in the box. They never think out of the box. Traffic cams and casino's are how they resolve things. Not a creative problem solver in the whole lot. Some day the tax payers will get tired of this BS and vote every one of these glory hounds out of office.

I tend to agree with you but I believe the politicians are simply looking for more ways to get more revenue. Where I live we pay personal property taxes on cars, boat, trailers, etc. My most recent bill showed 15 separate entities taxing me for personal property. All of my utility bills have multiple taxing entities taking a piece. Sales taxes, income taxes, etc. The state runs lotteries of all sorts. It's enough to make me dizzy.

Casinos are, in effect, free money for the politicians because although they're taxed heavily going into one is completely voluntary.
