The UN are fine ones to tell anyone anything. They never do anything but talk no matter what. What a worthless organization. Why our Country subsidizes it is unk. to me. They have never done a damm thing to stop any civil rights violations except talk about it. They talked and millions have been slaughtered since the came into being. Get rid of them.

100% right. The US should not only pull out of the UN but remove its headquaters from US soil.
Since its inception, the UN has accomplished very little, except alot of talk with no positive results.

The UN has written the book on peacekeeping, monitoring of ceasefires and maintaining peace in troubled states.

A simple search online would show you how much has been achieved directly through UN intervention.

And that's not even considering less obvious matters such as the increase in the flow of information out of troubled areas around the World and the way in which war crimes are now documented, investigated and prosecuted. And less fashionable work, like clearing minefield after minefield, supporting modernisation of police forces, and so on.

But why let a bit of basic knowledge get in the way of a clichéd rant, ay?

'They never do anything but talk'. Well, talking is an important part of keeping peace and prosperity going, isn't it? Without the 'talk' perhaps East Timor, Cote D'Ivoire, Liberia and countless other places would still be tearing themselves apart.

Hasn’t it been once said “The pen is mightier than the sword.”? The U.N.’s LACK of force may indeed be the one thing that actually saves this globe….

F&F!

yep, keep talkin to the hand, once. twice, three times if necessary -- then what?
keep doing the same same thing -- expecting a different result -- a person like
that would be called neurotic.

When governments use violence to silence the voice of peace, one quickly assumes to answer back with more violence. The situation is heightened when in the odd instance government violence is met with more peaceful protest and innocent people end up being killed while the world watches on the sidelines, our brothers and sisters dying for the very freedoms we take for granted and even worse tend to perverse with manipulative politics and fraudulent economics. However the saying still holds true that the cost of freedom is paid for in blood, I just go on to think that it should be the blood of the tyrant. freedom is the right of all men and women of all ages race or creed, I think we need to make our voices heard and send a clear message to the tyrant and the dictator that we are ready to stand for our freedom all of us united.

What I would like to submit…. do you think it is… well, just a little too much?
; )

Dear U.N. Secretary-General Ki-Moon,
Thank you. I suspect the people of Syria thank you, the peoples of the Middle East thank you and humanity thanks you….. For this GLOBE is truly DONE with TYRANNY no matter whom where or what and what we do get to see is but the involuntary spasms of a dying breed…. a very dying breed. Do beware though those can be quite nasty and mean!

Spread Freedom!

Like telling a 1 year old not to touch the hot stove, then when they touch it we scratch our heads and say "I don't know why he did that, I told him not to" - You have to smack the little hand and say "no" if your words are going to have any effect.

That's great, we all want peace. But sending peacekeepers and bombing like the psychopathic conglomerate of nations under the UN/NATO will only make the problem worse.

What a silly comment.

Assad is not the problem. The people instigating violence in the streets are the problem.

"Today, I say again to President (Bashar) Assad of Syria: Stop the violence. Stop killing your people,"

Who could possibly ignore such a strong statement?

The Secretary General of the UN's word has the strength of a feather.

We should have gotten out of the UN years ago. It's just a propaganda mill for our enemies, and we pay for most of it. Move the UN to Moscow...after we leave it.

As long as Syria has Iran supporting Assad the dictator and Russia and China keep turning a blind eye this genocide will roll on. Very sad stuff.
01:10 PM on 01/16/2012
The UN is like asking to many people in one room to make a decision. They can never seem to agree on anything and don't have a reputation on following through. Another Hot Air Balloon Ride consuming US tax dollars. A voice of don't do that to keep their name out there and try to justify their being.
