Darn. Just when they finally started producing some really great products.

My Kodak Zi8 HD camcorder is excellent and one of a handful that has an external microphone jack necessary for anything close to pro sound.

Bye Kodak.

kodak did it to itself.. it refused to change with the times, and didn't invest in digital photography, preferring to follow its old business model. i just hope the kodak pensioners are taken care of, and dont lose their pensions that they were promised.

It's not true that Kodak didn't invest in digital photography-to the contrary:

They invested heavily actually.

im talking about the 90s when Sony invested heavily in digital photography, while kodak sat back. they were late to the party.

Saw this coming years ago. Helped a friend clear out his negative from the vault of one of the last negative cutters in LA because they were going out of business.

Imagine if Kodak had been visionary -- they might have developed the Red, or any number of high end digital cameras. The lack of vision is costing anachronistic companies like Kodak (to name one) dearly.

If you saw this coming years ago, why didn't you save the company. Or was it a lack of vision on your part?

You know they may have known and not worked for Kodak. Or even if they told Kodak that they wouldn't listen. I knew the Iraq war in 2003 was insane before it started, told anyone who would listen, and yet we still invaded.

kodak helped document so many of my childhood memories. its really too bad they couldn't make suitable digital changes to stay afloat.

Its like the American Motors Car Co./ Rambler went like that. Kodak /Brownie ,the logo is to old fashioned it needs up-dated. That yellow color says old school,to slow= yellow says caution as in traffic signal. Motorola was nearly like this and then they got diversified, some how.
Get the ergonomics tool box out and give it to it. Make that camera handle better and it'll sell better.
02:04 AM on 01/19/2012
eh?
Kodak's consumer digital cameras are the best selling cameras in the sector. The docking station and one-touch uploading systems are "ergonomic" in the ways that matter in an internet age. Kodak has been a leader in digital and remains strong - but - they have a debt structure tilted towards the past - films and papers' neither of which are selling anymore.

Good. They "downsized" me 11 years ago and screwed me out of severence pay on top of it.

Eat a bowl of Fuji film jerkwads.

Not so bad at all. It wasn't that many years ago, based on toxicity and quantity, that Kodak @ Rochester 'won' the award for America's worst polluter with it use of methyline chloride.

Not quite sure what Kodak can do now. They had enough time to prepare for the new future in the digital age, and pretty much did nothing. I've had two Kodak digital cameras, and both were woefully horrible. Fuji got smart, Kodak went cheap, or 'dumb'.
02:07 AM on 01/19/2012
I've had several fuji cameras.
Truth is that Kodak was out maneuvered by Nikon and Canon many years ago - in a future in which Cameras are not merely a lost leader in order to sell film, Kodak is left without a "ticket to ride".
I wouldn't be buying fuji stock either btw.

oh look at that. One mighty falls. Kodak had wonderful years until they got phased-out. Like VCRs turned obsolete, Is it possible for coke, mcdonalds, walmart, sony, honda, toyota to go Kodak? I think so, even first world countries can go down the atlantic ocean.

Even you are gonna die someday. Guaranteed.

The thing is I'm not afraid to die. And not afraid to lose everything I have again and again and again. I don't know about how severe your fears are.

Sad to see them go, but they can only blame themselves for this...

Kodak filed Chapter 11, not Chapter 13. They aren't going anywhere.

Fairish point - I think however, that there is a strong sense that Kodak doesn't have much to offer the Industry going forward. "Kodak" is not a professional camera brand (no pro cameras), Pro paper is going to ink jet/dye sub, and there is no film market.
