I bought 4 boxes of girl scout cookies this year to show my support :)

I tried posting this 4-5 hours ago and it's still, "pending". My apologies if it ends up being a duplicate.

I love TYFA, but they have got to be kidding. They are asking us to show our support for the GSA and Bobby by doing one of the following:

-Make a donation to the Mount Saint Vincent Home, owned and operated since 1883 by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, an organization of Catholic Nuns. You know, the Catholic Church with the Pope that says that trans people should be "removed from the human ecology"? The one that co-founded Prop8?

or,

-Make a donation to the US Armed Forces, a branch of the US Government that actively discharges/fires any employee that is transgender.

This has got to be some sort of miscommunication or someone's idea of a bad joke.

Mount St. Vincent's Home is fairly open, and it is a vital outreach here. Support for the organization will go directly to help kids, not to further the Catholic political agenda. And "cookies for the troops" is just something ALL the girls scouts do. Again, your donation would go directly to the troops, and not to further anyone's political agenda.

As a transgender person in Colorado, I have actually done work with MSVH, and I support what they do. You can feel safe that donating to them will not harm transgender people or our political cause.

Respectfully, Jasmine, I disagree. By making those two programs that much more successful via direct support, our actions would help to further the health and PR of the organizations that run the programs.

As in the case of the Salvation Army, there are other ways to support the end recipients that do not cause harm in the process.

I agree, sounds like the troop itself doesn't need more money, but I don't agree with these designated recipients. Instead, I'll donate to my local girl scout organization. Also, there are charities specifically helping gay families in the military, who don't get government support and benefits because of DOMA. Contact OutServe for recommendations.

Got a box of Peanut Butter Sandwich cookies in front of me right now. I don't eat a ton of sweets, but I made a point to buy extra Girl Scout cookies this year!

Signed,

An ally :)

I desperately wanted to buy Girl Scout Cookies this year due to the attempted boycott, but usually had a problem because they usually were available to me just before Passover, when I am trying to get rid of the chometz (bread type products). I was lucky this year. I was able to buy 2 boxes of Thin Mints Sunday and expect to buy one of Smores this Friday.

Yay!!

Bully for you!

In case you are wondering, the reason the donations have to go to a group that will then buy the cookies and give them to a charity, scout troops are only allowed to accept limited monetary donations from people or organizations. Donations over a certain level have to be given by the troop to the local scout council to support the entire scout program, not just a troop. I think the level is around $250 or so.

People like to box in, sort out, label and categorize people. That way they know how to react to, and treat them. As soon as someone is placed outside those definitions, chaos, confusion and outrage against the unclassified ensues. It is becoming clearer that there are many people who's inner being does not conform to their physical gender. What is needed is an open mind, empathy and compassion that would lead to the acceptance of all people without looking and judging them if their gender does not conform with their natural inner feelings. Taylor from Ventura must have had a compassion by pass. She is arrogant and self righteous and narrow minded and feels it is her right to try and push everyone into boxes that reflect her vision of life, whether they wish to be so classified or not. She needs to be educated.

Wrong. In every particular. Wrong.

What are the justifications for your hatred of transgendered individuals? And try to say it without mentioning god (the bible says nothing about trans people), or the bias of left wing media.

Yes, empathy and compassion are terrible terrible things.
