"Desperate" seems to be the perfect word to describe the GOP these days. Desperate and perhaps "incompetent"..."Suicidal" comes to mind as well...

Someone like Christie represents one of two things as a candidate, 1) raises serious questions as to being prone to a heart attack or brain aneurism 2) only slightly more desirable as president than say Palin, Bachmann, Perry, Paul, Santorum and Gingrich.

Christie only recently demonstrated his lack of leadership when he vetoed gay rights. No referendum please, no one gets to vote on a person's rights.

Why are corporations now considered people but gay men and lesbians are not?

Christie's greatest appeal is to GOP sensibilities and not the best interests of the nation.

The GOP are desperate for someone new to jump in the race because they know all their candidates are deeply flawed and only have a very slim chance of moving into the White House.

If the present dilatory(?) course of their campaign continues, they won't be worrying about the White House; they'll be worrying about their majority in the U.S. House (of Representatives.....)!

Sorry Dan. Chirstie's future political career can be described in two words: John Candy.

I like the govenor and I wish him better health and a long life with kids and grandkids.

I often appreciate your viewpoint on things, I usually agree with you. This time, I don't. He is a nasty, ill mannered and very unattractive man to be running for president. His attitude and behavior will cause people to vote for Obama against him. He would be a horrible president.
I have an education in history with emphasis on the science and art of propaganda. The oligarchy wants Obama for another term, these candidates are incompetent straw men set up to make people believe this is a real election. After Citizens United and NDAA, our voices have been silenced forever. We didn't choose these candidates, we were presented with them and told to choose between awful and worse than awful. They all represent the corporate oligarchy that rules this country, not us.
Christie is another obscene example of what we are offered as leaders. He could care less about the welfare of this nation or it's people.

Just put a glass of water on the main dais at the convention this summer.

If you see any ripples, then Christie is running.

Metaphorically speaking, of course. Glaciers don't have legs. They slide on the ooze their bulk forms from that material beneath them.

As food analogies seem appropriate, this primary is like watching the dessert table at the end of the day at a low-budget buffet. All that's left are small bowls of either green or orange jello, vanilla pudding with a weird crust forming, and an odd, old-appearing tapioca. People want dessert--and are trying to act enthusiastic--as if they green jello is their favorite thing ever--but you just know if something better showed up from the kitchen--all 4 of those desserts would be in the trash.

Holy speculation overload, Batman!

When was the last time a brokered convention wound up nominating a candidate who wasn't even running for the office? I haven't checked, but I'm pretty sure the answer is "never."

As usual, Mr. Rather is envisioning the world the way he thinks it should be (or fears it could be) rather than the way it is. Normally reporters stick to facts, but if you have to speculate, shouldn't they be speculating on things that are precidented or plausible?

Then why are there consistent reports that Party big wigs are frantically looking for someone other than the remaining announced candidates for the nomination?

I'll re-phrase my question then: when was the last time party big-wigs decided a candidate vice the people who voted in the primaries and caucuses? Half a century? That sounds like idle speculation also.

"His stated reason for not becoming a candidate earlier was that he just didn't feel that this year is his time."

Actually, he said "I'm not ready". Repeatedly. I'm sure that the Dems have video. He's not going to do any reversing this year.
