From insider leaks it appears Muckmurdoch was extremely reluctant to shutter NotW and only did so after much urging by others.

Likewise, it's doubtful he would have happily set up the Management Standards Committee and turned on the sods at the coalface if he wasn't desperate to contain damage from revelations yet to come.

Why does NewsCorp still have a license to operate in the U.K., or anywhere for that matter?

Why do they still have a license to operate in the USA? Their full and complete destruction can't come soon enough for me.

Could you please supply a link that says a person needs a license to operate a newspaper?

Nice try . . . http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/

During the course of the publication and distribution of a single edition, NewsCorp operates with multiple government permits. Whether it's the environmentally careful disposal of used printing chemicals or the use of commercial vehicles to get the paper to distribution points, NewsCorp does so only with the permission of the government.

You might also remember, as a newsperson, that there is no First Amendment in the U.K.

What a hot corrupt mess he's in. He should serve time in jail and compensate all the victims but, of course, his money will buy him out of any potential punishment.

Speaking of drinking mimosas, here's something I learned a LONG time in college in Philosophy 105:

When we drink we get drunk,
When we're drunk we go to sleep,
When we sleep we commit no sins,
When we commit no sins we go to heaven.

Therefore: LET'S ALL GET DRUNK AND GO TO HEAVEN!

Part of me wonders if this strategy of Roger Ailes complaining about the Obama Admin "going after" them is a preemptive way to paint any investigation of News Corp by the FCC or the Justice Department as "political".

There are rules and requirements to having an FCC license, and one of them is that of having a good reputation and high moral character. I think one thing is becoming clear, Murdoch's leadership has shown a lack of character, his reputation has been tarnished, and that alone would tend to make me think his licenses should come up for review
02:04 PM on 02/25/2012
Why go to all that trouble ?

Why not just soften the criticism a bit, throw in a praise every once and awhile, stop bringing on some of the crazies, or at least the craziest of the crazies.

The President will be re-elected...good time to start hedging some bets.

Because he is a fool, and fools never learn. It is their destiny. Like any criminal, they believe they can lie their way out of anything.
02:21 PM on 02/25/2012
Meanwhile he keeps buying up more cable so he'll own the
media.
Murdoch is one of the biggest contributors to the Republican
party and his real name is probably Tea Party Inc., so
it takes an act of Parliment to get this crook, and the
small fish that did as they were told should take him
down with them, rather than go to prison.
The Justice Dept. should look into the monopoly
law under the FCC that infringes on Freedom of
Speech as well, that is a factor as well.

Sssshhhh....you're making the nervous tics of the Fox employees flare up with that kind of talk. You know they had a Bed Bug infestation over there? True story. Why do you think all of the Anchors and Pundits are so animated and lively? Trying to disguise all of that constant itching and twitching. Whenever I see Bill O' Reilly get too upset or particularly loud, I just assume that at some point during the broadcast he felt a bed-bug, or thread of the Murdoch scandal, crawl up his sock and under his skin.
11:16 PM on 02/26/2012
Whenever you see Bill O' Reilly get too upset or particularly loud he just realized that his guest is about to win the argument so Bill just yells over them to try and save face. Poorly disciplined children with self esteem issues do the same. As evidenced by adults like O'Reilly, some people never out grow this.

FTA:

'The emails were allegedly deleted as part of a policy created in November 2009, when phone hacking claims began to surface. The goal, according to the documents, was to "eliminate in a consistent manner" emails "that could be unhelpful in the context of future litigation."

Translation: the emails would prove they are guilty as hell.

Yes Moxo. Furthermore, federal law states that only American citizens can own and operate television stations. Do you know what U.S. president FAST-TRACKED Murdoch's citizenship application? In case you don't know, here's the answer: RONALD REAGAN. Murdoch officially became an American citizen in September 1985. If you go to http://www.wikipedia.org and do a search on News Corporation, you will find even more facts.
