WOW the nazi-con paid trolls are out on this one.
Amazing how these cons have no loyalty to anything but their corrupt party,
10:30 PM on 02/27/2012
Is there any way possible to put an end to the constant over-use of the phrase "nazi" in reference to anyone who isn't really one? It's tired, lazy and undercuts any real argument you may have.

its mainly used by the left. they have certain phrases they can use and say since most are poorly educated. they figure if they can parrot the word nazi often enough it will make them sound less brain dead.

Hmm, Did Bill Clinton get nominated for sleeping with Monica Lewinski? For lying about it under oath? or for getting away with federal purgery?
10:29 PM on 02/27/2012
Or for humanitarian efforts? Which isn't really part of the supposed criteria, but there's a lot more to any person than one story line.

Funny that so many people who don't even understand the criteria hold forth about who they think the prize should go to. "and one part to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses." Those where Nobel's stipulations. Over the decades the committee has expanded the "fraternity between nations" to include humanitarian efforts and advocacy for human rights. It says nothing about "the most peaceful person". It doesn't even say that a person be peaceful at all. In fact, the nature of the world is that those who are locked in the greatest conflicts have the easiest time meeting the terms of the will when they attempt to back away from the conflicts. It is not uncommon for it to be an award based more on the situation than the person.

That's too much info for them to understand
10:18 PM on 02/27/2012
in my lifetime (truman thru today) only 6 american politicians (or those associated with them) truly deserved the nobel peace prize.
1. john marshall for his marshall plan.
2. robert kennedy for his courageous support of the american civil rights movement. (he was the true heart and soul of that great movement)
3. richard nixon for opening china. (forget the watergate stuff.., this was truly historic)
4. jimmi carter, who should have shared it with perez and sadat. (a real rip-off for a dude that worked his butt off and almost pulled it off)
5. reagan, who should have shared it with gorbachev. (how not?)
6. george w. bush for his heroic committment to fighting the aids epedemic in africa (the guy more than quadrupled the amounts spent and, consequently, is overwhelmingly viewed as a hero throughout africa).
truman, eisenhower, jfk, lbj, ford, bush #1, clinton and obama served our country honorably.., but did nothing particularly deserving of this award.

i'm one of those freaks who actually have had admiration for ALL our presidents.
unfortunately, ideology blinds most americans from thinking similarly.

GWB does not qualify because simply putting State money toward an issue is not typically seen as active work. Also, there was strong criticism for the emphasis on abstinence. As a comparison, I am sure that Bill Gates has been nominated before but not won, primarily because his work is related to his money (even though his direct involvement is much greater and it is actually his money and not federal funds).

The award for Gorbachev was largely related to his efforts to transform Russia. I don't know what Reagan had to do with that other than in an adversarial way.

I can see your point with Nixon and Carter.

You can't give it to Kennedy because King won the award for his leadership in the civil rights movement. It would not have been proper to have shared it because of King's preeminence. To give them the prize separately would be to focus too much on the US.

The Marshall Plan was another case of state money going to an important problem.
11:31 PM on 02/27/2012
your decision to disqualify recipients for their use of "state money" to accomplish the goals is mystifying to me. certainly carter expended a bucketful in his attempts to gain peace in the middle east.
disqualifying george w. bush for using his political influence as president to SPOTLIGHT such a fine goal in the face of world indifference is extremely shortsided and possibly reflective of some hangup you have against the boy.
just because mlk deserved it more than rfk doesn't mean rfk didn't deserve it. NEVER said they had to SHARE anything. after all, it's given every year.
without reagan's "adversarial way", there NEVER would have been a gorbachev (even gorbachev admits this). lech walesa received his prize for taking an "adverserial stand". "tear down this wall" MEANT something for goodness sake.
never mentioned gates because he's neither politician nor worked for one.

To those of the hate philosophy who cannot understand why Bill Clinton should be awarded or considered for the Nobel Prize I offer the following truths. Beside two terms with unprecedented peace and prosperity, after leaving offfice:

In the aftermath of the 2005 Asian tsunami, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan appointed Clinton to head a relief effort;
Clinton joined with fellow former President George H. W. Bush to establish the Bush-Clinton Tsunami Fund in January 2005, and the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund in October of that year.[158] As part of the tsunami effort, these two ex-presidents appeared in a Super Bowl XXXIX pre-game show, and traveled to the affected areas. (Remember Bush senior getting bored/tired and complaining that Clinton was like the energizer rabbit with unending energy);
The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), begun by the Clinton Foundation in 2005, attempts to address world problems such as global public health, poverty alleviation and religious and ethnic conflict.

In 2009, Clinton travelled to North Korea on behalf of two American journalists imprisoned in North Korea. Euna Lee and Laura Ling had been imprisoned for illegally entering the country from China.
After Clinton met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, Kim issued a pardon;

He was named United Nations Special Envoy to Haiti in 2009.

There are many more examples, but none that would be of interest to the ilk that enjoys debasing a great American president.

While I certainly do applaud the humanitarian activities that President Clinton has been involved in, they don't really meet the goals set forth by Nobel.

I don't have much affection for Slick Willi with all his lying to America and to Congress, but he IS much more deserving of the Nobel than the disaster presently occupying the White House.

10:26 PM on 02/27/2012
The discussion at this point is speculative at best. And kind of a low comment since President Clinton does have a good sized list of professional accomplishments, albeit not really "Peace Prize" in the original concept.
