Frustrating, isn't it?

"In our gut, Americans feel that the violent rhetoric in Sarah Palin's campaign events poisons the productive pragmatism of American Democracy. "

In your guts you know they're nuts.

Seems relatively similar to this:

A form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation or victimhood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion. – Robert O. Paxton, The Anatomy of Fascism

speaking theoretically, palin's politics meets the three principal tests of fascism: (1) an emotional appeal to divinely exceptional ultranationalism in foreign affairs; (2) finding a scapegoat to blame for the gross economic failure of current leaders, and then a campaign to fix the problem by directing anger at the scapegoat, in this case, Obama; and (3) a leadership cult based on personality, mass rallies, and without regard to any real knowledge or political experience.i.e. Palin. Unless she and her elder win and abolish the Congress, start a global war, and nationalize the economy, we aren't a fascist state. But hers are fascist tactics, and no one should be fooled.

Why is she allowed to get away with inciting these rabid extremists into such a frenzy
that they are calling out to Kill Obama..
Why isn't the secret service or homeland security all over these potential domestic terrorists?

Who says they aren't looking into it?

If they are, then they certainly wouldn't do so publicly.

"Even if 'fascist' is not an accurate description of Sarah Palin, the scale of the public concern in response to her campaign events is a social fact all by itself. And as we head into the final weeks of the campaign, the scope of that social fact grows by the hour."

If it WALKS like one
and TALKS like one...
it IS one.

You say PoTAYto and I say PoTAHto.

We are both describing the same veggie under the plant.

"What We Believe" from Palin's Church:

WE The Millennial Reign of Christ when Jesus returns with His saints at His second coming and begins His benevolent rule over earth for 1,000 years. At that time many in the nation of Israel will recognize and accept Him as the Messiah, the Savior who died for them and all mankind.

WE BELIEVE...A Final Judgment Will Take Place for those who have rejected Christ. They will be judged for their sin and consigned to eternal punishment in a punishing lake of fire.

WE BELIEVE...and look forward to the perfect New Heavens and a New Earth that Christ is preparing for all people, of all time, who have accepted Him. We will live and dwell with Him there forever following His millennial reign on Earth. 'And so shall we forever be with the Lord!'

One one my pet theories is that Presidential elections are a quadrennial intelligence test of the electorate. As in all things, sometimes one is gratified and sometimes one is disappointed.

Well said. I hope this is a year of gratification.

I hope we get government better than we deserve.

Palin does this because the prize is so great (in her mind). The Vice presidency and possibly the Presidency, should McCain be unable to serve out his term, are staggering prizes to her. From Mayor to Governor was intoxicating, and now an even bigger dose of power is required to satiate the cravings. In addition she is being PUSHED by the McCain power mongers to do this which makes it all okay. And being able to shape the world per her extreme beliefs (should they win) is more icing on the cake. Finally remember her barracuda nickname--win at ANY cost, and her apparent pride in being called a pitbull.
Pit bulls are known for attacking for no reason. Why would anyone want such a title? Clearly the writers of that speech intended to use her for vicious political fighting. Much in the manner that real pitbulls are USED for fighting (Michael Vick?). Actual pitbulls don't know they are being used but Ms Palin does and she doesn't seem to mind.

Palin is having the time of her life. you betcha.

Great discussion.

Calling Palin a fascist is extreme labeling, similar to McCain/Palin calling Obama a terrorist sympathizer, just because they don't agree with him and want to smear him.

But the incitement to violence is an extremely serious and despicable tactic and should be widely condemned. The McCain/Palin message has been reduced to hate mongering and should be called out for what it is at every opportunity. They are playing on people's primal fear of "the other" and any perceived threat to "our way of life." This is playing with fire and could escalate into violence.

Sarah Palin’s theatrical descents from airplanes holding her baby, her skirting questions with memorized scripts, her studied folksy language, her going for the jugular while smiling sweetly, the barracuda glare behind her spectacles—all this might charm and energize the social conservative base, but it’s not going to sway many independent voters. Her shallow grasp of the substantive issues aside, the more independent voters get to know the real Sarah Palin, the more she will turn them off. John McCain made a huge mistake letting his handlers pick the lip-stick, pit-bull, barracuda hockey mom as his running mate. If he loses the election, it will be largely because of her.

Oh, I think he was going to lose anyhow, whoever he picked, but if it's a landslide, as it seems to be shaping up to be, it will be because of her.

Our Sarah speaks to the inner fear of some folks, her words cultivate those fear to become actionable items.

Palinology is contagious..

This is just very frightening to me. What is this woman thinking?? I am disgusted by her behavior and the behavior of the people at her rallies. I never thought that I would see anything like this in my life time. You would have thought that we would have learned from the past, but obviously there are many narrow minded, hateful people still around. It is so very sad. I feel for Obama and his family and anyone else this has effected.
