In Michael Steele's defense, how was he supposed to know that the GOP candidates were going to behave like a bunch of clowns? If they could 1) come up with some decent ideas 2) lay off social issues and 3) stop being so hateful, the long primary could have helped the populace become more familiar. But with the current GOP, that's like getting too familiar with a skunk.

In the fall, before their complete lack of comptence was so relevant, Steele said ANY one of the candidates would make a better president than President Obama.
Even Herman Cain.
So let's not be too forgiving. Steele would put party before country in a heartbeat if he still was in a powerful position in the party.

Rubio/West.

Unless they REALLY want to lose big, then it would be Palin/Bush (any of the family members, which ones does not matter. Todd/Laura would do. LOL)

How can the party hold Steele responsible for this mess? Did he pick these loony_candidates? Did he tell the voters to vote for RickS?

Blame your own rhetoric and disinformation campaign.

The cause of the mess the GOP is in is neither Michael Steele nor the protracted primary season. The core problem is the trajectory the party has been on since Ronald Reagan declared that "government is the problem." Slavish adherence to that principle (one which Reagan himself violated time and again while President) and its unregulated trickle-down "voodoo" economics sidekick increasingly rendered the GOP the "Party of No," finally putting it in the hands of an unholy alliance of greedy, the country-be-damned financial interests and Tea Party nutcakes who have no clue about how to cope with the challenges and complexity of the 21st century. What today's Republican Party offers as a "solution"--at least judged by what we've heard on the campaign trail so far this year--is fear, superstition, grandiloquently vacuous rhetoric, and ultimately a political highway to nowhere. Considering how fundamental the flaw, that's not a problem even an attenuated primary season would have solved.

The CUBAN vote. Other Latinos can't stand Cubans, and Cubans think they're better than other Latinos. The Chicano and Puerto Rican populations know they're better off under Obama.

Thank you for the clarification. I know little about the differences within the "Latino" label, my brown skin is of a diffent catagory :)

And there is that problem, his last name. Man, I'm sure there are some great people named Bush but right now just the name gives me the heebie-jeebies. Jeb's got my problem times 150 million.

Maybe he should change his name to Jeb Mayberry, like Andy of Mayberry, great name, a lot of nostalgia appeal and no one really hates that show.

Hey, not a bad idea!

If you ever watch Steele on tv he seems to be afraid to say whats really on his mind, its almost as if someone is telling him this is what you need to say and not say or else... Its almost like he is a puppet of sorts...

So, if there's a brokered convention, does that mean that the eventual nominee would have even less chance than the last time around to properly vet the VP pick?

Ah the spin. When they rewrote the rules they thought they were creating a system to bury the Tea Party by allowing the elite's handpicked candidate to get delegates in most races. They did not expect Romney to get so little support.

I see it just the opposite. If the Conservative voters had consolidated behind one candidate, the elite's handpicked candidate would not have stood a chance. As long as the base voters split their vote three ways, they will never get their candidate on the ticket. Base voters are actually doing the elites work for them....giving Romney the nomination.

Obama/Biden 2012.

Yes, it can be read that way. However, by splitting the delegates, they could have enough to deny Romney the nomination and then have all the non Romney delegates go for one candidate. In other words, they are campaigning for a bargaining position.
02:37 PM on 03/12/2012
That clown show is what it is but I do have respect for Michael Steele, even without agreeing with his positions----Reince is a total disgrace.
