I don't think he fully read and understood your original letter. When people feel attacked, they become emotional and defensive and do not think clearly. People in his position are supposed to recognize when they are reacting in a defensive, knee-jerk manner and wait to reflect and calm down before re-reading and responding, at least that is what emotionally mature individuals do.

How interesting that the good cardinal IMMEDIATLY posed himself as a victim.

Fanned and faved. I noticed that as well. This seems to be the newest tactic. So many on here post about how the big bad gays are persecuting the Christian. To me, persecution is when you cannot attend religious services, or you risk your home being raided for religious materials, etc. not when one is called out on their bigotry and desire to force their religious belief in law.

"Neither I nor anyone in the Church would ever tolerate hatred of or prejudice towards any of the Lord's children".

If that's the case, then why does the church make statements that denigrate the LGBT community and the church's money go toward trying to pass discriminatory legislation?

And you expect what from the new cardinal?
The hard core reality is the Roman Catholic Church and its clergy from the pope down do not see this as their problem. For if the youth of America only turned to their god and begged forgiveness and worked harder they would be converted to "straight" people.
On a personal and professional note..you should have attacked Mr. Dolan. He represents the RCC in New York and, therefore, is responsible for what does and does not take place. The gay and lesbian community fighting the RCC is like fighting windmills. You do know Don Quixote? He did no better for as his partner stated, "whether the stone hits the pitcher or the pitcher hits the stone it is going to be bad for the pitcher". Only when the lesbians and gays of America take a stand and stop attending mass with RCC and the other hater organizations will they gain the impact they truly deserve. Do not give me this stuff about it being a sin to miss mass on Sunday...the church already WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS....20,000,000 strong and we are not going away.

"Neither I nor anyone in the Church would ever tolerate hatred of or prejudice towards any of the Lord's children".

So I am guessing what thousands of priests did to little boys was showing their own special kind of love????

"I would never do this thing I'm doing to you right now, that would be wrong, and I'm right!' The Christian authoritarian double-bind.

Yes. Dolan exemplifies all the worst things one could say about Irish American clergy--of the 1950s.
