Wow, even on this lame story I'm being moderated. So my comment, when you decide it's okay, can be posted for anyone. Usually, way too late to even get a response. Really??? After 1,000 non-troublesome posts, you still need to moderate?

First off, I'm not a republican, and can't stand the thought of a republican being in charge of anything, but it is clear that most of you commenting here know nothing about this man. If I had to rely on a republican for anything, I would want it to be Tim Johnson. He has worked hard for his constituents, and has earned his retirement. I wish him well.

He may be a good many but his party is evil. And by electing him or any Republican that gives the overall evil party more power.

Sounds like the GOP is losing another moderate who was actually trying to do his best at the job. Imagine calling constituents and thinking for himself! Geez, today's GOP sure doesn't want that. Critical thinkers who care. No way!

Illinois is a blue state, And we mean to keep it that way.................Obama 2012........

This liar is my current congressman. It is bittersweet to lose him in such a way. David Gill's numbers are looking good and Johnson is too much of a wimp to stick around and get beaten at the ballot box. A true gentleman...not!

The Republicans are in for a surprise as Dr. Gill is going to win this race. It doesn't really matter who the Illinois Republican Party installs as the candidate, it took the primary vote away from the voters as the next runner up should be the one to get the nod. Oh well. Dems 1, Repubs 0.

David Gill won the Democratic primary over a DCCC hand-picked corporate Democrat who outspent our true grassroots campaign 5 to1 and still came up short. Dr. Gill is a champion of civil rights, full equality, and working people. One of the 99%, he takes no corporate-backed or Wall Street-backed donations, and he works for a living while putting in 80-100 hours per week in on the campaign trail. We have our campaign structure and volunteer network in place. We are expanding our voter and donor base. Help us make history on Nov. 6 Visit our web site at www.gill2012.com and get involved.

Perhaps he's just tired of the GOP! Who wouldn't be having to spend all day with those clowns who've become a national joke.

There's another seat for a Dem, for sure in that state.

The reason for the 65-year-old Johnson's decision was not clear,,,,,
How about a nice fat gov't pension and free health care as a start?

He does not receive "free" health care. Like every government retiree he will pay a portion of his health care about $300 a Month.
10:41 AM on 04/05/2012
Considering the amount of his government pension, three hundred a month is almost free.

I'd like to pay $300 a month for my health care.....I wonder how much a 65-yr-old man would have to pay on the private pay market for the health care plan WE the TAXPAYERS provide?

I don't know what you consider a fat pension, but it will be about $41,400 per year. Plus he will be on social security. And he doesn't get free health care; he has to pay health insurance premiums and co-pays like most of us. http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/uscongress/a/congresspay.htm http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/health-care-for-members-of-congress/

He ALSO has been getting a pension from the State of Illinois, and will continue for the rest of his life. It will be tough for him to live on only two government pensions. Then again, the government is evil, right?

Maybe what he really means is that he wants to spend more time with his family and less time with Boener and Can't-or.

Where's your evidence for that statement? I'm not a fan of his, but that's a bit over the top.
