Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's Office published on Saturday the text of a sarcastic letter that will be handed out to the pro-Palestinian activists upon their arrival. The letter "thanks" activists for "choosing" to make Israel the object of their "humanitarian concerns."

"We know there were many other worthy choices," it says, and goes on to list a number of other such "choices": Syria, Iran and the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

"You could have chosen to protest the Syrian regime's daily savagery against its own people, which has claimed thousands of lives," the letter says.

"You could have chosen to protest the Iranian regime's brutal crackdown on dissent and support of terrorism throughout the world."

"You could have chosen to protest Hamas rule in Gaza, where terror organizations commit a double war crime by firing rockets at civilians and hiding behind civilians", says the letter.

The letter states that activists chose "to protest against Israel, the Middle East's sole democracy, where women are equal, the press criticizes the government, human rights organizations can operate freely, religious freedom is protected for all and minorities do not live in fear."

The text concludes by suggesting that the activists "solve first the real problems of the region, and then come back and share with us your experience," before wishing them "a nice flight."

So tell me what parts of Canada's Indian Act did Israel copy. South Africa used it to create Apartheid there and the Act in Canada is still in place.

Yeah. People that know what the word apartheid actually means, and don't simply use it as a way to denigrate Israel.

For those who believe that everyone has the right to go to any country that they want to go to and peacefuylly protest, I am organizating a group to meet in Mecca on the first day of Ramadan next year and protest the treatment of women, gays, non-Muslims. Casual attire. Please do not bring bibles, playboys, crosses, Jewish stars or other "contraband" and YOU MUST PROMISE TO KEEP IT PEACEFUL. I don't want the Saudis to have any reason to prevent us from coming. For reservations dial 1-555-ON-MY-WAY.

Last year’s “Welcome to Palestine” initiative saw more than 300 internationals attempt to land in Israel. Israel blacklisted most of them, including a nine-year-old child and an 83-year-old activist. Many were prevented from boarding their planes in Europe; more than a hundred were arrested upon arrival in Ben Gurion Airport.

According to Haaretz, two activists fought the deportation in 2011. Their lawyer, Omer Shatz, explained that an Israeli court accepted their appeal on the grounds that the Interior Ministry “cannot refuse entry to anyone who declares on arrival at Ben-Gurion Airport that they intend to travel to the West Bank, because the area is under miltary [SIC] control…”

Shatz added that the Interior Ministry’s exercise of control over who enters the West Bank is akin to annexing the occupied Palestinan territories.

Still, the Interior Ministry is involved in preventing activists’ entry again this year.

The airlines canceled their flights and refunded their money but it's too bad because they should have just dropped them off in syria and see if any of them made it home after that....
At least they'd have an opportunity to engage in activism for a change....
09:54 PM on 04/14/2012
Or just drop them over the ocean, like your friends in Chile and Argentina used to do to this kind of people, right? We all know the kind of "activism" you like.

The airlines didn't refund their money, by the way, it just cancelled their flights.

And Israel threatened the airlines with a boycott to force them into not allowing people to fly.

Israel stopped people LEAVING British and Swedish airports, amongst others, thereby controlling the behaviour of people outside of its borders, by bullying and coercion.

During our visit to Palestine last summer, we were humilitated only twice. Each time while passing thru the Ben Gurion Airport. We were traveling as a group of Americans on a education syle mission, volunteer purposes only. Not a hello, welcome, have a good day. Just evil stare and upturned lip. Wonder how that would go over with Israelis traveling to the US. There would be direct calls to their 100 senators and their entire House of Representatives.

So when these 'activists' are protesting at a airport. Please try doing this at airports in North American or Europe too. Why not protest the people who are on no fly list to the United States or the murder of 10,000 people in Syria and the occupation of Northern Cyprus by Turkey which is illegal under international law.

The no fly list is to stop terrorism, not peaceful protest.

Israel is terrified by peaceful protest because so many of it's activities reveal it as a violent non democratic state. It has a lot to be afraid of by having the truth about it revealed.

>>when the world meets their demands for freedom and self-determination?

The "world" offered them that in 1948 with UN Resolution 181.
They rejected the world's offer and instead opted for a never ending, losing, war to deny the Jews their freedom and self determination rights.
No matter how people try to cover up that reality, it's the only reason they have no state now. They wasted 64 years waging an illegal war on their neighbors.

For those who regularly complain about rocket attacks and terrorist attacks and bombs on buses, they have no right to complain about this free, peaceful protest.

You cannot silence these people from their right to protest, and it is better that they have the right to voice their opinion in a peaceful, non violent way. That's called "democracy", something which seems to be an unfamiliar concept in Israel.

They are welcome to protest..., in their home countries!! It is, however,of interest that they don't protest the firing of rockets on civilian population in Israel; about the bombs on buses full of children, women, men and the elderly; or, about the slaughter of many thousands of civilians in the streets of Syria. They are silent about all of these violations of the very first of human rights, the right to live. One wonders, why don't they...??

Further to this story, there is some deeply shocking news right here.

Entrants into Israel are being forced to sign a document which forbids them from being a member of Pro Palestinian organisations, and allows for their deportation should they be involved in any kind of political protest.

A "democracy" does NOT do this

European airlines cancel ‘flytilla’ tickets Several companies have buckled under Israeli pressure to prevent airport protests.

Acoordinator of a mass fly-in of pro-Palestinian activists into Israel’s main airport say airlines have canceled flights for at least 100 people.

Amira Musallam said Saturday that activists notified her via email that Lufthansa, EasyJet and Air France canceled the flight reservations of some suspected activists.

Musallam says she still expects hundreds to arrive, beginning Saturday evening and continuing through Sunday.
