Hasn't evolved much beyond the Scopes Monkey trial. Sad.

I wonder if there are degrees of gayness. Like lets say some percent of us are totally straight, not any interest in the same gender. Another amount of us are born totally gay, the thought of the opposite gender sexually is gross. A third catagory is flexible. They can choose to be one or another. Many of us, straight and gay feel it isn't a choice. We belong to the first 2 categories. Then a lot of people including these 'gay is a choice' homophobes and all the bisexual people feel that it is a choice because for them it WAS a choice- they are all from the third category. So people born flexible in their sexuality that choose to be in the more 'socially accepted' straight category are terrified their kids will also be flexible and not make the same choice. Which scares them. Because they know for them it was a choice.

According the Kinsey there is a scale of homosexual interest. Interestingly, it would not appear to be a normal distribution but bimodal. This I doubt for nature tends to favor the bell-shaped curve in most attributes. Perhaps what it means is that there is a mix in all of us and that, were cultural biases removed, most humans would actually be bisexual. Self-identified bisexuals say that they do not choose to be one way or another but are capable of falling in love with either males or females - it just depends on the person. So even they do not make a choice. The only people who chose are those who feel they must and are, therefore, more concerned about what society thinks than what is best for them. They are cultural pawns and if strongly homosexual but choosing the straight lifestyle very often wind up being self-hating homophobes.

Sexuality is a spectrum. And the homophobic do tend to have repressed homosexual tendencies at much higher rates than the norm. I would say that it's not so much that they "know it's a choice" but rather that they've built an entire structure of hate to separate them from their sexual feelings and that hatred is often projected against others to distract them from their own desires.

Why is Van Shaver allowed to impress his own views upon the student body? In fact it is worse - as he is making a very public scene out of someone who does not agree with his own personal views. There ought to be an investigation over hypocrisy and forcing Shaver's views on others.

It's Tennessee... what else would you expect from a State where many family trees have a single branch?

The Scopes trial appears again and again in so many manifestations in that benighted state.... so sad. "Ignorance and Intolerance" should be the state motto.

Tennessee has been falling behind Kentucky in bigotry lately. I was wondering when they were going to try to catch up.

"...inflicting their personal beliefs and sexual orientation decisions on impressionable students." clearly she doesn't realize those same said students include LGBT students too. Bigoted woman IMO.

And....by stifling this student, they are attempting to "inflict their personal beliefs and sexual orientation decisions" on others. They always, always, always fail to see the hypocrisy in their own statements.

People are gay. Get over it, homophobes.

Not when they can get so much mileage out of it. And feed their anger, frustration, hatred and jealousy of others freer than they are.
