PREVENTION IS KEY.

If only there was a pill for Afghan women that would guarantee them only giving birth to girls, a few decades of no men would do that country wonders.

for ten years we have been killing their men...not many left I dont think...

balance is needed...look at China or India as one poster was saying...they have sonagrams to determine sex then abort the females to build big armies of horny men that will over throw nations to steal their women...twisted oh yea but 200 million horny Chinese men is a terrifying prospect...if I was a woman...I would want some protection in more ways than one. As a man...I would need a gun.

I wonder if the orthodox christian men treat their women as bad as apparently hindus, protestants christians, Roman catholics and muslims do...?
01:07 AM on 05/10/2012
I don't claim to be an expert on Orthodox Christianity, but I do know that in Egypt, the Coptic Christians practice female circumcision and that divorce is not allowed (I think except in cases of adultery or if one spouse leaves the church; when Copts convert to Islam, it is sometimes to get out of bad marriages). At Christmas time, we often have photos on the front page of the newspaper of Orthodox church services here; the men are all on one side of the aisle and the women on the other, and the women have their hair covered. (Just for the record, I live in Kuwait, and there are many churches.)

Don't kid yourself. Teen girls are forced into prostitution in the US every day. Beaten, raped, drugged, until they're broken.
06:23 AM on 05/07/2012
ANY man or men who do this, anywhere, need to be arrested, tried quickly and summarily executed. That, or put to hard labour and harsh punishment for the rest of their natural lives.

Men? So it's okay when women do it? Don't think it's common? Look into brothels in Cambodia.

I'm at a complete loss for words. almost...what happened to this child is beyond horrible but what I don't understand are the post here saying it was cultural and Islam or the taliban is behind it and on and on. Where does that school of thought come from? it's simply a matter of perverted greed and cruelty by a family she was unlucky to have been forced to marry into and they abused this child. It is part of the culture to marry girls off at a very young age, they aren't the only culture that still does this. But from the little bit I know of the Koran, it doesn't teach them to force their wives and children into prostitution

it is a cultural thing to force marriage on young girls, more people are actually in that sad situation then those like us who have freedom to choose. That is very common in the 3rd world countries. But it is not a cultural thing to torture and beat them until they submit to prostitution

It's not cultural. There are all kinds of people who abuse women to force them in to prostitution. It happens in every country in the world.

Well it does however say women are more like possessions that persons thus we get the mind that says it is ok to beat them to get what you want them to do...much like a horse Quran 4:34 I think it the verse.

This is the same mind set rapist and thugs in America have...that women are mere possessions not persons. That women are here to please them and if they do not... well...what does one do with a horse that breaks it's leg?

They treat women like property and dirt but men wouldn't be here without women.

maybe we just like drama to much...watch to much TV.

At the turn of the last century, China still performed feet bundling, conservative forces insisted that the practice was culture, where as pragmatists saw it for what it was, torture - hence the practice was completely banned.
There's nothing to respect of an act because it's "cultural", torture and abuse is torture and abuse, enough said.

"conservative forces"

got a link on that one...

are there any customs of people supported by progressive liberals that might be considered torture or murder by some in the same country?

Hopefully the publicity will at least give her a certain amount of safety and perhaps a better life then she could ever have expected or dreamed of. This is not about Islam or the Afgani people. There is evil in all corners of the globe. Where humans live, inhumanity will exist. Thankfully for this girl the Uncle stepped forward to do the right thing. I pray for God or Allaih to watch over her poor little spirit until she can do so for herself.

Those people are wrong.

OH...YOU ARE SO WRONG.

I guarantee you boo-boo, if men were subjected to serious similar style punishment as they dished out on their female victims...it would be what they "deserved".

Oh and it would cut these kind of acts to a fraction.

I still don't think you can ever really make them pay for the damage they've done. It's like murder, you can give someone the death penalty but it won't bring the life back that was taken.

"child marriage, giving girls away to settle debts or pay for their relatives' crimes and so-called honor killings in which women seen as disgracing their families are murdered by their relatives."

This is your child, your family . . . your flesh and blood. Where is your parental love?
How can hurt a another is beyond me but to use your child to help yourself???

01:39 AM on 05/07/2012
Who's 'them'? And where did you get this information from?
06:49 PM on 05/06/2012
whatever the culture... people should have some kind of moral respect for anything whether it's living or not. This isn't a story about an abused woman..this about an abused child. In any eyes or mind the child has only been alive for 15 years and most people cant even make decent decisions in their 30's... When you give birth do you just throw your baby away or do you raise it, protect it and love it? Children aren't matured enough to marry. They haven't lived therefore they follow what others teach and if we have a whole country of child mothers and violent, lying Nazi like fathers for generations and generations what do you think their country is like? With technology we have today we have Internet with news and Facebook in every country..People are evolving with new information that they see and hear. People arent stupid and they see it's wrong and that they've just been brainwashed by psychos...Culture is evolving... That being said we can get back to the topic which is an abused child.. Held against her will and tortured. Lets just grab some pliers, tweezers... anything really that can grab and rip and I don't know lets just invite someone over and rip out all of their fingernails...maybe hook some jumper cables to their ears and stick the wires into a light socket or something..that's perfectly normal behavior..
09:37 PM on 05/06/2012
most of the world's cultures do not have the same values as Americans. South Africa's president just married his 4th wife........ children in other countries have arranged marriage since birth.......for money.......we have traditions that make no sense yet we do it.......that's theirs.
06:38 PM on 05/06/2012
I have nothing else to say except that my heart goes out to her.
06:35 PM on 05/06/2012
So horrific. I hope she can get out of Afghanistan and get resettled in USA or any other modern western country without fear of racism. While the US has its faults. I know if she settled into a great diverse community, she can heal and have a great life.

Why would she have to settle in a "great diverse community" in the US? Would she not be accepted in a small town environment?
