So the superintendent is taking the "Deny deny deny" route? Or the "muddy the waters" by saying they don't know what it true yet, though about 90 students saw the video?

Fire the teacher for lying to the student and then trying to embarass him. This person has no place in the education systemand she sounds no better than a high school bully.

I completely agree. Way to misuse and abuse her power! Disgusting. Some people never grow up. :(

This teacher should be suspended immediately and then fired pending the outcome of the investigation. It shouldn't be that hard to investigate.

It should be a criminal offense when any teacher disillusions a child so thoroughly.

"Equality". "Freedom". I seem to remember reading those words in one of the US's much-ballyhooed documents... anyone remember where?

As long as there are people who think that making fun of others is sport, this kind of "teacher" will always have their defenders. It seems to me that the adult in this case is the young gay man. Heaven knows, it seems to very well show the immaturity and bigotry of the teacher.

I don't think the webmaster has anything to do with this ...

It's the only one I could find. I tried the message form on their web page, but it was broken at the time I visited. The web page showed the PHP code for the comment submission and it went to the webmaster.

If you have an e-mail for the superintendent, that would be great.

Somebody call up Lambda Legal---they need to sue the pants off this "teacher" and the school board if they don't take action.

The average heterosexual needs a lesson in manners from the average gay.

It'll be a nicer world folks.

Seriously.

Bill.... do you 'seriously' believe that society could raise the 'manners' bar by consulting with 'the average gay'? I don't dispute that there are polite gays but would remind you that we heterosexuals still have the majority in sheer numbers (or so I last heard). Are you not, by that claim of an improved world thereby, mathematically inferring that there are enough gays overall to make that improvement who could then potentially indeed influence a statistically significant outcome in behavioral changes?
Seriously again....respectfully, my response is compiled to match the absurdity of your posting.
Oh please, no matter your sexual proclivity, give the 'average heterosexual' some credit. In addition, along those lines.... can we lay endless discussion of the aforementioned to rest? I'm sure you couldn't conceivably want or need to care about my sexuality and...for me.....that's a resounding Ditto.

We don't have to guess. We know exactly who and what you are.
And NO! we will not end this discussion to appease you. If you don't care to read this or any other story (you have issues with so MANY things) then don't read them.
Posting your displeasure is of no interest to anyone but yourself.

If this student is dating a trans girl, wouldn't he be bi? I mean, a gay guy would not date a trans woman because hello - we're WOMEN.
01:24 PM on 05/15/2012
Or they could've gone to the dance as a pair because they're friends and didn't have other dates!
01:41 PM on 05/15/2012
I can't hear the video, so maybe I'm missing something, but it wouldn't be out of the norm for any high school kid to take a friend as their prom date, but not actually be dating said friend. I'm a woman, my prom date in high school was a boy in my class, but that doesn't make me heterosexual or bisexual...my prom date was just a friend.

It's scary how people can go to such lengths to put down a young transgendered individual. Just let them be, they're not doing any harm. Stop the bigotry already.

This is what's going to have to happen: the parents of these kids who are being bullied like this need to lawyer up and sue these schools and see if there is any criminal charges that could be filed against school administrators that simply refuse to protect the kids that are under their care. I was a high school teacher for ten years and every single school district I worked for was terrified of litigation and the bad publicity that came with it. None of this will change until something happens that puts the fear of God into these school officials, be it a massive lawsuit decision or a school official being arrested.

I'm going to reserve judgement ot the school's administrators until I'm sure what they have done and are doing to combat bullying by teachers as well as students. If they allowed this to stand they should in fact be part of a legal action. If after a reasonable investigation they fail to fire the teacher they should be party to a lawsuit. I'm not ready to convict just yet.

Aside from the moral issues behind the 'why' this teacher aledgedly showed the video in class. It is apparent that said teacher falsely mislead the students into believing the video was to be used in an entirely different context and venue. There are laws in this country that are set up to prevent the public broadcast of private citizens without their express written permission. I assume that if the students are graduating high school that they are no longer minors, so the teacher may have avoided that entire lawsuit (unless the date was a minor).
As for the point made that all of the attendees at the prom would have known he was gay and attending with a transgender girl, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. It could very well have been the case that the gay student was not out as gay and the trans-girl may well have been stealth and no one there would have been the wiser and the students could have gone through their lives happily.
I don't know the specific circumstances surrounding this case, and it is very likely that no one else reading this does either, but I do hope justice is served and that these two young adults will be able to live their lives in peace.
