Apparently it's not socialism when the government hands over money to owners of sports teams.

not as long as they keep filling in the coffers of the "grassroots' teapublican campaigns..

an interesting point: if these people have all this money to throw at ads, then they have money to pay their friggin' taxes. they want something for nothing. the Tax Everybody Else party is bad for the country, and these wealthy people who have their hands out to take take take should be ashamed of themselves.

I think you need to remember how many in Obama's admin had tax problems. Head of the list, Geithner.

Let's interview reverend Wright and see if he offends God or the terrestrial privileged bigots:

1) Reverend Wright, is Satan the brother of Jesus Christ?
2) Reverend Wright, do you question the christian doctrine of Trinity?
3) Reverend Wright, do you believe in polygamy?
4)Reverend Wright, do you believe in the evolution of Man to God ?
5)Reverend Wright, is the Bible the book of spiritual inspiration tou you?

Can we put God on the stand for these questions? I'd really like to have those answers on the record.

Charles Krauthammer addressed this issue better than anyone else I've seen.

--"Look, I think there is an appalling double standard here. Its ok for The Washington Post to run a 5,000-word front page story on a prank that Romney, at the age of 15, committed. And yet it's somehow illegitimate, the low road or whatever for people to bring up the fact that the adult Obama had a 20-year relationship with a racist, anti-American preacher whom he considered, spoke about, wrote about as his mentor and spiritual advisor. That is a double standard unlike any I've ever seen."

Hay, Chuckie, you're a republican. Surely you've seen more double standards
than the one you just created.

The very idea of team owners coming to the government - ANY government ANYWHERE - for money to build or repair THEIR facilities is absurd - and galling - beyond belief.

Pro sports is a business - an ABSURDLY profitable business - BILLIONS upon BILLIONS. HUNDREDS of BILLIONS. The tax laws in this country are set up so that EVERY PENNY of "business expense" is TAX DEDUCTIBLE. There are write-offs and write-downs, depletion allowances (on assets actually APPRECIATING), exemptions and deferments - the list is VERY long - and EVERYONE knows it.

If a team owner needs money - let him use his own - or borrow it - from a bank, investment group, other owners, the league - or even the government. You know - as an INVESTMENT.

Even the INTEREST on borrowed money is tax deductible.

But to GIVE these people money in these tight times? That is CRAZY! To reach into the shrinking pool of public funds to further enrich those ALREADY swimming in money?

Only a Republican could float that with a straight face.

Get the RICH off welfare!

I would love to be a guest at the Ricketts dinner table to listen to the discussion between Mr. Ricketts, an Obama hater of the first degree and his daughter who has given large donations to President Obama and in her own words has stated: "My own personal view is that President Obama has been a great leader in very difficult times. He has been leading us to an economic recovery; served with great honor as commander-in-chief during a time of war; been a strong proponent on issues important to women and just last week he exhibited great courage in endorsing the freedom to marry for gay and lesbian Americans.”
Their political discussions must be quite engaging to say the least.

Let's not even go into mormonism. Romney has said to friends that he never takes the oath of office (see Massachussets) using the bible, but he campaigns with dittoheads evangelicals saying he is a christian. I'd rather respect an honest person who tells me he is not a christian than an anti-christ who claims to be a christian. Let's talk Romney and the oath of office in Massachussets!

Or how about the FACT that Wrongly - as a former official of his church - is sworn to place HIGHER loyalty to church than country AND to work to replace the secular government of the USA with one run by his church?

ALL officials of his church MUST swear these oaths...

methnkng suggests boycotting all Cubs games.

Maybe.

The Cubs and their fanbase really operate on a high moral plane, and should be above recrimination for the disgusting pecadillos of their peice of fetid garbage, dung-beetle owner.

TD Ameritrade, on the other hand, is fair game. Surely the more cowardly among President's most hateful critics ... the ones who wouldn't dare to contribute directly to a race-based hate campaign ... will look into using TD Ameritrade. The President's supporters should make a point of using someone other than TD Ameritrade.

Linking Obama to Reverend Wright? There is no need to "link" the President, as he sat in his church for 20+ years and Wright was a close spiritual advisor.

Linking Obama to Reverend Wright is almost like linking Romney to Hit|er. His Church "mormonized" the latter.

If the Ricketts have all this money for ads, why don't they give it for renovations for their own Ballpark?

I guess now Mormonism is on the table... and when is the GOP going to tell us their deep opinions on it... polygamy is not one man and one woman..

its one man and another woman and another woman and another woman... wait ...that is the dream of the GOP ..no divorce.. just lots of wives...

Are we gonna talk about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin next. More hypocrisy from a desparate GOP grasping at straws because they have no vision for our nation. Only a one track recording saying, the folks who have had the best of times and made no sacrifices, shouldn't pay one more penny. They would rather cut needed funding for many things average folks need to make ends meet instead.
