Hands down the best series ending was "Sleeping In Light", the final "Babylon 5" episode. Immensely moving; never a dry eye watching it.

The Shield, Monk, and Six Feet Under had the best series finales. I teared up on both Monk and SFU finales. And The Shield left me absolutely speechless and had me thinking about it for days afterwards.

I cried like a baby at the end of SFU. That was a series I hated to see end, but was really happy that they tied it up so nicely. Very fitting.

For me, best series finale was Monk and I can't believe it's not on this list. He found out who killed Trudy and found her daughter. Just lovely. Newhart, Frasier and Friends, also great endings.

How about the best series with the worst finales? There are so many..... LOST - I hung in there through its highs and lows (hopelessly in love with Des and Sayid) and was so disappointed by the ending I could scream just thinking about it. Medium - All I can say is what the hell. Seinfeld - Absolutely LOVED this show except for some first season missteps, but that ending..... ugh.

Just my humble opinion. What say you, people of HuffPost?

Oh! And Cheers! How could I forget Cheers - funny show, sweet and happy ending.

I agree Monk's series finale was great! I actually teared up watching it. Six Feet Under and The Shield had great finales as well.

I'm so glad I didn't finish LOST, I had a feeling I wouldn't be satisfied with how they wrapped the show up. I can't think of any I hate. I usually bail when they start going downhill or they've been unexpectedly cancelled.
08:51 PM on 05/23/2012
I wish I would have bailed! If they would have just stuck to one idea, it could have been awesome, but they had the "Others", the Dharma people, time travel, Jacob and Esau, flashforwards, flashbacks, then the flashsideways.... what a mess!

Every episode of The Shield was brilliant.

Even though I thought the series was somewhat uneven, I would have to go with Six Feet Under as the best. I'm pretty stoic, but when I saw what happened to Keith, and then the scene where David envisions Keith right before he dies, I lost it. The last shot of Claire was amazing, too. I did crack up a bit when it appeared that Billy literally bored Brenda to death!

Agreed!! I just posted that The Shield had one of the best season finales I've seen. But I could be biased as it is (was) my favorite TV show of all time. :)

Where the F@#$% is Seinfeld's finale? One of THE best of any series EVER!!! Terrible list! I only agree with Friends and The Shield since Terriers, Arrested Development and Angel where cancelled WAAAAAY before their time!. There are better Series Finales than those shown on that list. From the top of my head I can think of 5 shows that ended better: Married With Children, Mad About You, 3rd Rock From The Sun, Smallville, and of course, THE X-FILES!!

Actually good point...where is the X Files finale in this list? For a show that ran as long as it did, and with the insane amount of conspiracies, it patched things up perfectly.

As for Seinfeld...while at first I thought it was terrible, my view of it has softened over the years. I did like that Curb at least gave us a sort of reunion show.
08:17 PM on 05/23/2012
Oh, I didn't care for Seinfeld's ending or Mad About You. I grew to hate Jamie so much I was hoping it ended with Mabel killing her! (I know that may sound harsh, but it's just a TV character)

I forgot about 3rd Rock From The Sun - loved it, especially Shatner as the Big Giant Head. So happy to see John Lithgow on How I Met Your Mother from time to time.
10:03 PM on 05/23/2012
Yeah I agree with the hate towards Jamie LOL But I really enjoyed the series finale with Jeannine Garofolo as a grown up Mabel

Insert snarky and nasty comment about Friends here _________ (My least favorite show of all time. I think I would rather get pepper sprayed than watch a minute of that show.)

Good list. I'm still a little sad about that I don't get to see more Angel or Terriers.

Though I didn't watch it live, Mary Tyler Moore show's finale was very heartfelt.

Good call (and memory!) I think MTM may have been one of the first series to actually DO a formal "finale" episode.

Six Feet Under was the best of the best! No matter how many times I watch it, it still takes my breath away.

Wow. It is amazing that in over 60 years of television history, 10 of the 14 best television finales have taken place in the last eight years, and all but one in the last twenty years. What are the odds? On a totally unrelated note, I wonder how old the person who made up this list is? Apparently not old enough to have seen (or researched) such amazing final episodes as The Fugitive or St. Elsewhere. And apparently television finales only count in the U.S. (sorry Black Adder, The Office, and Life on Mars). I can't wait to find out what the 14 best movies of all time are. Something tells me that Casablanca and Citizen Kane are somehow going to miss the mark since they premiered before 1992.

If Europe wants to be recognized, it should invent a time machine and travel back to save itself from the Nazis. Until then, US rules.
05:21 PM on 05/23/2012
Yes the US does rule.  Except in television series.  And health care.  And human rights.  And education.  And in environmental issues.  And economically.  But when it comes to an over-indulged, jingoistic populace with blinders on, you are correct:  US rules.

By that logic we should be watching Russian shows. Pick up a book every now and then, champ. Hollywood history is NOT real history.
