Let me share why I believe Obama did not go to Wisconsin to make a larger push for Tom Barrett. If he had, the radical right would have raked him over the coals for involving himself and the federal govt in a State's rights event. The tea party is already angry with the supremacy clause in the constitution, so they would have had another example of "the big, bad govt." involving itself in matters where it  Read More...

Pure political calculation. No doubt the internal polls indicated a confortable lead for Walker and Obama didn't want to associate with a losing effort. The campaigner-in-chief didn't earn the moniker for nothing...campaigning is all he knows. Leadership and courage, not so much.

You were swallowing the Dem sympathetic push polls appearing to make it closer than it really was, just like the polls showing Obama with a narrow lead.

He went for that dreadful Martha Coakley who he knew was losing. He could have sent Biden too; Joe can get away with anything. What a slap in the face to working people.

as usual the administration is playing CYA. they don't want to be too close just in case barrett loses, but still has to seem interested. the spin in the after math will be interesting. predictable, but interesting.

Certainly this is curious behavior for the White House to show up at 10 minutes before the election to support Barrett.  Where was the President three months ago to help in raising funds ?  Where was he when the public workers and the citizens were in marching in the streets more than a year ago ?

Once again, the President seems to be less interested in supporting the 'change' that he advocated and articulated 4 years ago.  Progressives and independents have been watching closely and many will be on the sidelines during this election.

He could have at least campaigned separately from Barrett in Wisconsin but maybe they are considering a strategy here. If Walker were to win maybe they are expecting increased turnout in November. Sadly the Republicans have done some damage in WI and the Democrats are gonna have a harder time

Quite the contrary...if Barrett loses, Dems will stay home in November. Regardless of popularity, Obama absolutely needs Wisconsin to win in November. His Indifference will be his demise.

Another election year victory by Republicans in a state Obama needs to win? How can that not be hurtful to the President?

It's not a big defeat for President Obama if the Koch Brothers win in Wisconsin. It's just wishful thinking on your part. The narrative will be how big secret money influenced the race there.
05:44 PM on 06/05/2012
That may be true at your house but not overall in Wisconsin.

Funny how nobody ever said the W in George W Bush meant weak or wimpy. The letter was there for the taking, but whatever we can say about George Bush, weak or wimpy are not among them. He almost always got his way (even though his way was wrong).

Let us count the help from President MANDATE. There is Martha Coakley of Mass lost to Brown and lost the Kennedy seat in the Senate. John Corzine in NJ so that Corizine could be an Obama bundler and failed CEO of MF Global, looks like he is going to be sued by the BK trustee over MF Globals failure. I doubt that federal charges will be brought against him as long as President MANDATE is in office. Congressman Reyes of Texas who just went down to defeat with help from President MANDATE. Just saying.

President Obama did support Barrett. Clinton was sent there along with Debbie Wassermann and others. If the president had shown up in person, he would have been excoriated for taking sides in a state election. It would not matter what he did, because he would be bashed by those like you regardless.

I think he did right in staying out of the state, but I do wish others had gone in earlier.

i wonder why obamma did not help him in person. well, he has screwed up everything else, got clinton, and co to try to help.
