After reading many people's comments, please explain to me what rights homosexuals are being denied. As Ryan T. Anderson wrote concerning the North Carolina vote, "In all fifty states across the nation two people of the same sex can live together, have their religious community bless their union, and have their workplace offer them various joint benefits if the religious communities and workplaces in question so desire. Many liberal houses of worship and progressive businesses have voluntarily decided to do so. There’s nothing illegal about this. There’s no ban on it (I worked for a corporation that offered joint benefits to homosexuals). What’s at issue is whether the government will recognize such unions as marriages and then force every citizen and business to do so as well. This isn’t the legalization of something, this is the coercion and compulsion of others to recognize and affirm same-sex unions as marriages. The same-sex marriage debate is so frequently framed in terms of granting gays and lesbians the freedom to do what they wish that few people realize that they already have that freedom the question is whether the rest of society will have the freedom to choose which type of relationship to honor as marriage."

States aren't voting to ban anything. They aren't voting to take away rights. They are voting to define what marriage is, and those opposed to homosexual marriage are voting to protect the union of a man and woman as something unique and irreplaceably important.

By my reasoning it would be lawful to prohibit interracial marriage? I was simply asking what rights homosexuals are being denied by keeping marriage defined as a union between a man and a woman. That's quite a leap you took there. Although, I'm not quite sure how you think that applies, in any way, to what I wrote. Unless, of course, you're comment is an attempt to compare a homosexual's desire to redefine marriage with the civil rights struggles of African-Americans. Quite honestly, that line of reasoning denigrates those that struggled under true civil rights violations and the brutality that men inflicted on them. I believe you would find a majority of African Americans would be offended by such comparisons.

From Pace vs Alabama, 1883, in which a black man a white woman were indicted for violating Alabama's anti-miscegenation laws :

"Whatever discrimination is made in the punishment prescribed in the two sections is directed against the offense designated and not against the person of any particular color or race. The punishment of each offending person, whether white or black, is the same."

Sounds familiar, huh?

Get it thru your heads people... it 's OVER. Gay marriage is here, it's staying, and in 5 years (maybe less) it will be legal in every state in the country.

I want to remind all the RIGHTS RIGHTS RIGHTS screamers remember where those unalienable Rights come from. They come from the Christian Faith that's where.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, ...

Those God given rights we believe in apply here not around the world.
Those rights are unalienable because they are God given and only because of that fact.

Check the preamble of any given state and you will most likely see the following:

We the people of the State of Alabama, in order to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God,.....

"We, the People of the State of Maryland, grateful to Almighty God for our civil and religious liberty....

The Constitution notes no authority greater than the people.

Your mythology is not our state religion; to the contrary, we are all free to believe as we choose without the state forcing a religion - or its dogma - on us.

The Constitution of the USA references a higher being that bestows rights to man that are not retractable for any reason.

I could post 1000 references from the founding fathers and others that include reference to God and you would reject them.
I could post 1000 historical documents with reference to God and you would reject them.

Your god is your agenda and no facts, truths, historical documentation will change your mind. You have chosen to believe what you will and that is your right but it does not make it true, accurate or right.

That was called a dowry and it was the price of having the opportunity of marriage to ones daughter. That has changed. Now a man can get a woman and all her goods for free. She gives her valables away for free and then cries injustice.

Why doesn't the gay community just settle on civil unions performed by a govt official? By calling it marriage, there are many roadblocks. A "federal" civil union could get you all the rights you are looking for like states recognizing your union, joint tax returns, beneficiary, etc. By calling it "marriage", Amendment 1 to the US Constitution kicks in (like separation of church and state). While those words are not exactly quoted in Amendment 1, it was Thomas Jefferson who quoted it, it is still read that way. A piece of paper is the only requirement needed anyway.

Any state that has allowed on vote on redefining marriage, same sex marriage has lost. No matter what the pollesters , pundits or politicians have said, they majority of the people in the United States, do not consider same sex marriage normal. I beleive that most people would support civil unions and domestic partnerships. No one wants to deny anyones civil rights, but they dont the foundation that nature intended or socity built upon negated either.

The sad truth is that Oregon and Washington are really four states. West of the Cascades is generally blue. East of the Cascades, not nearly so much. Here's hoping the Puget Sound section of the state can haul the rest of the state into the 21st century. If the referendum fails look for reruns, and reruns and reruns up the wazoo.

Follow me here for a second: Sodomy is a crime, and you can be arrested for it, but the cops have no right to search you, you can't do it, but the cops can't raid into your apartment and arrest you for it, they need probable cause and hearsay would be considered harassment and harassment is a bigger crime. Generally considered so and a few other combinations of processes of things as the greater norm of bad and worse.

All the hatred I see on here and desire not to see same sex couples married. Why? It does not affect opponents' lives in the least. But it would affect same sex couple's lives, allowing them to protect their families. So many are carrying on about the "family". Well, guess what, we have families, too.
