"A .50 caliber bullet is powerful enough to cut through several city blocks, and any buildings that may be in its way."

Yes, if you live in cardboard boxes. Seriously HP, will you ever miss an opportunity to demonstrate how ignorant you are about weapons in order to get a rise out of people?

Yeah, I noticed that too. The use of the word "tank" is also questionable considering the last tanks that were armed with machine guns were in use in World War II, and they are actually discussing armoured personnel carriers and armoured cars anyway, which are not tanks.

That said, however, I do not like the fact that one of the local departments indeed has its own armoured car, .50-cal machine gun, and a paramilitary force of volunteers.

That's what Ariana always says, "We just cut and paste Seth" actually it was just a parody on SNL. Not even Ariana. The point is still the same. Now AOL has learned the tricks.

The police in this country have no problem with the thought of crushing their neighbors skull for any reason they deem improper or disrespectful. They are truly mentally and socially challenged undeserving as protectors of society as a whole. They have abandoned there job of catching real criminals for the job of issuing fines and the terrorizing of average citizens misdemeanors and who have lost most respect for their profession. And for the privilege of being abused by these neanderthals, we over pay and provide way to much benefits to these sociopaths. I do believe in their mental health coverage being kept and vigorously pursued.

I think you are completely wrong! The ONLY people who cant stand police officers are the people that break the laws, and get caught! The police do not go out of their way just to harass goo, law abiding citizens for no reason. My brother - in - law is a police officer, and he is the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back to help you. He is not mean, biased, or unfair when it comes to him doing his job. Most police officers want to protect their community, innocent families, and innocent children from all the bad things, and bad people in this world! DO NOT put ALL police officers into the same category, because like i said most all of them only want to help, and serve their community, and keep it a nice, safe place to raise a family!

Tell that to all the people getting stopped and frisked randomly or stopped for profiling reasons. And how do you explain the reasons these cities request the military weapons totally unneeded in most if not all towns and cities. They have far exceeded their reason for existence and purpose in some areas and abandoned their duties in others. You pointing out the attributes of personal relatives and individual examples and exception is irrelevant. And your statement about only law breakers not liking police is over the top. And to appease you I will agree that there are some good police officers but most get disenchanted and callus with time right along with a false sense of total superiority over others. We do have a national guard to call upon for those situations that may warrant a larger response to outside attacks. the less agencies that have these powers and equipment the less the peoples rights and freedoms can be trampled by giving these powers and abilities to agencies and people that historically over step their boundaries under a false sense of patriotism and false sense of power and authority. I'm so happy your brother in law is not one of these nuts.

Looks like they are gearing up for something. I guess they figure things are going to get so bad they will not weapons of mass destruction to deal with the citizens of the US. It's nice to know that our country is keeping pace with Iran.

Yeah, just what we need on our streets. No wonder so many Americans feel the need to arm up. The same cop that Tazed the 70 year old women after a traffic stop, the same cop that needed to cuff a five year old, the same cops that shot and killed the unarmed man in his doorway, many, many others, yes that's just what they need- military weapons!

A lot of people dont realize that even the Board of Education has there own SWT team. Did any of you authorize the BOA to own military grade weapons or a SWT team? Just one more reason why this country so desperately needs Ron Paul.

Arming secessionist states like Arizona and South Carolina with armored vehicles with weapons, banned by the Geneva Convention for use against people?

People armed with slogans and signs and bumper stickers watch out. Tampa is ready for those convention demonstrators like Chicago never was in 1968:

Give Barney Fife a tank and see what happens. The police force in my hometown can't be trusted with a squad car and a regulation revolver. I'd hate to think what they'd do with some of this stuff. Toys in boys' hands.

I hope this stops permanently. But with either Obama staying on board or Romney taking over, it's not likely to stop. Neither a Democrat nor a Republican Congress will put a stop to it.

The militarization of police is sickening.

Obviously we need to stop giving these weapons to local police and start auctioning them off to Americans.
I can see the NRA getting behind this idra.
My inability to purchase a crew served weapon infringes on my 2nd amendment rights!
As we scale down police departments, the wealthy will need to better arm their private police forces.

Check again. They still run the Civilian Marksmanship program started after World War I. If you participate in a NRA shooting competition (anyone can sign up) the Pentagon will sell you a surplus Garand or M14 cheap.

Domestic law enforcement agencies were never part of the military and never should have been armed as if they were ... the public is not the enemy. If the police are being out gunned, then gun laws should be written more carefully. Otherwise, you end up with what we have ... a militarized police hunting a militarized criminal class with innocent people caught in the cross fire.

Au contraire! You obviously haven't talked to a cop lately. The public is very much the enemy. Any so-called "civilian" (non-cop) is a cop's enemy.

Thank goodness....what we really need is machine guns turned on American Citizens. Given the horrendous behavior of the police attacking OWS in New York and Oakland and students on the David campus...I don't think they should be given more lethal weapons....I somehow don't feel protected these days.
