Keen's Chop House in NYC is excellent, but don't get the steak, get the mutton chop! -- there nothing like it anywhere in the city.

Nothing picks for LA, Miami, San Fran, Atlanta?

I buy meat at Lobel's in NY....ya know it really is different than supermarket stuff. If you want chopped meat for a burger they will take a steak from the case and grind it for you...then hand form the burger....it is a little more money (not as much as you would think) but well worth it.

My patio with a thick New York Strip on the grill cooked over a hard Maple and Cherry wood fire.

We have dined at several of the places mentioned. However, we prefer non-tourist venues like J. Gilbert's in Overland Park, KS. Their Angus steaks are supurb.

The original Vic and Anthony's is in Houston and it's very good. However, Pappas Bros. in Houston is better than Vic and Anthony's.

Prime Rib was last restaurant in Baltimore to require a tie and jacket...now that requirement is gone....I miss it.

I was there about 14 months ago, and they still required a jacket then.

I did a job in Anaconda Montana back in the 80's. It was an old copper smelter town. There was a restaurant there called the copper cellar or something like that. I can still taste the ribeye just from thinking about it. Their ribeye came with two rib bones still on it and they loaded the table with all kinds of trimming. I liked the people out there too.

A 12-ounce ribeye from Costco, marinaded for an hour in Lawry's steakhouse marinade, seared for 5 minutes on my contact grill. Tender, juicy, not abused with excess salt, and costs about a third of what a fancy steakhouse charges. I can't bring myself to order steak knowing I can do equal or better at home.

Like sushi, steak is way overpriced. Sure, it's good but steak quickly hits a point of diminishing returns. There's not a lot of difference between a $30 steak and a $40 steak. Grilling your own can be just as good too and you don't have to pay such a huge mark up. The margin on steak is ridiculously high.

Say what you will about Texas, and most of it will probably be true, but they do know steak.
