On another note, I have some friends from Nebraska, and they love spicy of any kind. However, the funny part is that once when his parents were visiting, we decided to order pizza and the only thing they would eat was cheese or hamburger or both. They absolutely refused to have pepperoni because it was "way too spicey!". I got such a kick out it.

I dont live in Chicago, but I know someone who does, do I guess that qualifies me to make a comment on this. :))

Seriously, when I visit, they always want to take me to Gino's East. I love their sausage pizza. One big wheel of italian sausage layered with cheese and sauce. My question is, to the Chicago folks that see this comment, is Gino's really any good as a regional pizza?

I love Gino's East! I believe it's a corn meal crust. I used to work close by so I ate there like 3x a week, LOL. A slice, small salad and a soda for $4.95. Ah, the good ol' days. I live in So FL now and have given up on pizza. Even when I think I've found a decent one, they're inconsistent.

OT, but what is your take on Portillos? I love their chicago style hot dog. The cr@p I get here in my area (west coast) is nothing close. Their italian beef is delicious as well.

Honestly, I never met a pizza I didn't like. Thick, thin, stuffed, whatever. They are all good. Everytime I think I like thin and crispy best, somebody shoves a big fat stuffed pizza in front of me and I must reconsider. I must say though, my favorite of all time what when I lived in Sicily at USNAS Sigonella. I was part of a Marine detachment there and just outside the main gate was a place call Mama Elio's. Big stone wood stoked oven, made THE best pizza's and Calzones. Always like to hit that just before catching the last bus back over to my side of the base after I had been at the E-club. Man, those were great.

my favorite when i lived in chicago was the plain pepperoni (thin) from leonas.. it was always perfectly cooked and had enough (xtra) good pepperoni to make my forehead sweat as i ate it.

years later i still crave it.

Chicago: Lou Malnati's looks like a accident in the kitchen...But I have to admit, there isn't a looser in the bunch. Id' have a pie at any one of them....

But my favorite is my "Hometown Favorite" to this day....Pepe's (and Sally's is very, very close second if the line. and wait at Pepe's is to long, and vice a versa, followed by Modern Apizza on State Street).

Pizza: Not just for dinner, lunch, breakfast.... anymore! It's a food group unto itself.

Take a slice of Wonder bread, smear some Prego on there, cut up a hot dog, then top with a thin slice of Velveeta. Microwave for 60 seconds....Boom! That's Italiano!!

I worked at Buddy's in Detroit for 5 years.
They were always fresh and never compromised on quality.
Dough was made fresh everyday. Produce and supplies were delivered every other day.

My store in particular had local shelters, missions etc. on a rotation to pick-up extra food.
I was a single Mom at the time and they were very generous about letting me take food home if there was extra too.
Good Food, Good People. :)
